NANCY NIVA Obituary
It is with great sadness and shock that the family of Nancy Elizabeth Niva (nee Brunberg), born August 22, 1941, announce her unexpected passing on Saturday August 3, 2024, with her family around her. She leaves behind Raymond, her beloved husband of almost 65 years (on August 8); her 4 daughters, Tammy Couzelis, Debbie, Vicki (Larry) and Rhonda (Donny) DiCasmirro; her 5 grandchildren Erik (Kaila), Alex (Leanna), Nick, Zachary (Alyssah) and Madison; as well as her 4 great-grandchildren Kaija, Evii, Aria, and latest Brooks; and brother- in-law, Gene (Virva).
Her family was the most important thing in her life. She was an only child and always wanted a big family, and not only did she have a big family, she created the most loving and extremely close one. Our mother enjoyed taking care of her family; she was always baking all the favourites for us. Memories were also important to her and we created many with all of our family holidays and vacations that we shared. The best was our parents 50th wedding anniversary - they took us all on an Alaskan cruise - best time ever!!!
Her second love was Niva's Restaurant. She put so much love and hard work into making it a popular and successful restaurant. People came from all over for her fabulous coffee bread and cinnamon buns, and the lemon pie was always sky high with meringue.
Words cannot describe the tremendous loss we are facing going forward with our lives. Our mother was our rock. She was always there for us with exactly what we needed. She gave us strength to get through tough times and always told us that you have each other to lean on.
We would like to thank the nurses at TBRHSC on the oncology floor, Kayla, Dina, Brooklyn and Olivia for their compassion and outstanding care.
A private family service will take place as per our Mom's wishes. Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. Should friends so desire, donations to the Thunder Bay Humane Society would be appreciated.

Sorry for your loss. My dad used to come there all the time. I have been there many times myself with my ladies. Always great service and food of course.

On behalf of my family, we want to send our sympathies to the Niva family. The Nivas were our neighbours and friends. We have such fond memories of being in the Niva home - the smell of freshly baked cinnamon buns and pulla filled the house! We also have many memories of fishing and blueberry picking trips up the Graham Road with the whole gang. I know we will all miss Nancy´s smile and her pleasant disposition. Our thoughts are with you Ray, Tammy, Debbie, Vicki, and Rhonda as well as your extended family during this time. May you all find peace during this time.

Nancy had a strong faith so I will miss how we would pray for one another during hard times, and I thought it was sweet when she would share goodies with us staff, I thought she was cute always covered in flour, and I will miss our discussions of kitties xoxo Lisa
