Neil Carruthers Obituary

November 13, 1954 –
October 24, 2017

It is with profound sadness, the family of Neil "Brad" Carruthers with to announce his passing on the morning of Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital. Brad was a man of many talents, who was eager to lend a helping hand whenever someone needed it. Brad loved to golf, especially with his dad and brother when he was able. He also loved to fish. His job required extensive travel in remote Northern communities which he loved. He adored spending time with his furry companion, Murphy. Brad was a long time, passionate member and past president of the Kiwanis Club of Westfort. He was also a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous for almost 3 decades, where he gained many valuable friendships. Brad is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Pappas of 35 years. He is also survived by his sisters Toni Brothers, Gerri Harrison, Patricia Carruthers, Denise (Gerry) DeRooy, all of Winnipeg, MB; Wendy Carruthers of Calgary, AB.; Susan (Randy) Yanyk of Thunder Bay; his brothers Derek of Thunder Bay, and David of Vancouver, BC. He is also survived by his goddaughter Amanda Anderson, who held a special place in his heart; and many nieces, nephews and their families. Brad is now reunited with his parents Thelma "Mary" and Douglas Carruthers, his sisters Judi and Pamela. We are positive there is one heck of a card game is going on. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. We would like to thank all the health care providers and the many family and friends that visited and cared for Brad over the last several years. He truly appreciated each and every visit.

Neil Bradley Carruthers will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Our deepest condolences to Jackie on Brady's passing. We enjoyed our time as neighbours. Brad enjoyed working at the remote airports in the far north of Ontario and was well liked and respected by all who knew him. His cheerfulness and practical outlook on life will be missed.

I'm so very sorry to hear of Brad's passing. While we only met during his last stay at St. Joe's, his friendly smile and sense of humour was infectious and made the days pass quicker. My condolences Jackie and Amanda.
