NICK SAWCHUK Obituary

NICK JOSEPH SAWCHUK December 15, 1938 - November 5, 2025
With sad hearts, and family by his side, Nick Joseph Sawchuk's spirit of life was set free, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 in Hogarth Riverview Manor.

Nick was born on December 15, 1938, to Bill and Elsie Dendiuk, in Winnipeg MB. Nick grew up in Port Arthur, where he met the great love of his life, Norma (nee Belrose). Together they had four boys, Bill, Ronald, Darryl, and Brad. They moved to Murillo, and while working at Abitibi Papermill, Nick raised his family. Raising four boys wasn't easy, but the never-ending yardwork kept everyone busy. Nick's main goal was to make his boys men. He had them involved in sports, like hockey and baseball; and also had them partake in other activities he loved, such as camping, fishing, and hunting.

Nick loved the long drives to visit with family, or the adventures out to go see live sporting events, he enjoyed the travel and journey. Although he went through many struggles in life, his Roman Catholic faith helped him through many of them, including the move from the country into Hogarth Manor as his age and dementia progressed these last couple of years.

Nick is survived by his sons, Bill (Holly), Ronald, Darryl (Marcia), and Brad (Kelly); grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Bill, and Elsie; wife, Norma; as well as friends.

Many thanks to the staff of Hogarth for their patience and care.

As per Nick's wishes, no formal Funeral Service will be held. Cremation has taken place, with a private family interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be most welcomed.

Arrangements have been entrusted to EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
