It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Nicolas Antaki, age 80 years. He leaves behind his wife and companion Aurora (Petty) of 45 years, his daughter Maria and his cherished grandchildren Nicole, Alex, Katie-Anne, Mackenzie and Nathaniel, brothers Paul (Ruth) and Pierre (Marlene) both in Brazil as well as numerous friends around the world. Nick's pride and joy was his family especially his grandchildren. He held a very special bond with each and everyone of them. They meant the world to him and they loved and respected him. Nick only saw the good in people and prided himself on his honesty. He was born to Russian parents who escaped the revolution. Nick was born in France and raised in Egypt. He had traveled extensively and met his wife in South America, where eventually they immigrated to Montreal, Quebec , where their only child, a daughter named Maria Nina (Ninotchka) was born. He was a great man, husband, father and grandfather , with an equally great mind. His grandchildren would always refer to him as a walking, talking "dictonary" of which he had an extensive collection. An engineer by trade, he was an expert watchsmith, teacher, cook and avid reader. He was fluent in 7 languages. He loved to drink tea and upon moving to Thunder Bay only 5 years ago, in no time did he form a group of regulars, that would gather at his home to enjoy one of his many passions. Nick will be sadly missed by "regulars", Mike and Maura, Pauline, Rose and Mike H. He made friends easily everywhere he went and was loved by everyone for his intelligence, wit and kindness. We will miss you Dad.Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17th at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Rev. Richard Kowalchuck of St. Elizabeth's R.C.
