It is with great sadness that the family of Orval Maurice Salter announce his passing on Sunday, October 26th at St. Joseph's Hospice, at the age of 88 years. He was born on September 5, 1926 in Graysville, Manitoba and was raised and educated in Oakville, Manitoba. He later moved to Winnipeg where he met the love of his life, Geraldine Newbiggin. They married in 1951. Orv worked at Imperial Oil in Winnipeg and was transferred to Fort William in the late 50's. He retired in 1981 at the age of 55 after 30 years of service. Orv enjoyed camping, fishing, curling, watching The Young and the Restless and was a member of the Branch 6 Legion. Orv will be lovingly remembered by his sons Ray (Kathy) and Ron (Pat); daughter Shelley; sister Doris (93) of California; sister-in-laws Isabelle (97) of Dryden, and Marlene Salter of Winnipeg; granddaughters Michelle, Dawn (Winnipeg) and Karly (Medicine Hat); grandsons Christopher and Patrick; as well as 8 Great-Grandchildren. Orv was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Geraldine, and his son Gary, both in 2008; his grandson Andrew in 2001; brothers Arnold, Mel and Eldon and sisters Irene, Verna and Lois. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Orval's life will be held on Saturday, November 1, at 1:00pm, at the DaVinci Centre's Marco Polo room, with Reverend Wendy Stone officiating.
