PATRICK BARKER Obituary

It's with heavy hearts; we announce the sudden passing of Patrick Barker on October 26, 2024. He passed away at home peacefully in his sleep at the age of 49. Born on December 11, 1974, in Thunder Bay, son of Ken and Riitta Barker. Patrick is survived by his loving wife Amanda (Menei) Barker and stepson Joshua Kolody (Hope), his parents Ken and Riitta, his brother Christopher, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends. He also leaves behind his "fur babies" August and Shadow, and his much-loved dog Mellow. He was predeceased by his grandmother Doris Barker, grandparents Maiju and Ensti Salo, and his favourite feline "Goober". Patrick graduated as a Registered Nurse in 2004. Nursing was one of his passions and his gift was in Geriatrics. Patrick held the position of Director of Care at Roseview Manor for the past decade. He was dedicated to his residents, colleagues and the community. It is a title he took pride in and is leaving behind a work family he greatly respected and cared for. Patrick's interest in a healthy lifestyle led him daily to the gym. Travelling the world with his best friend and soulmate Amanda, was at the core of his heart; especially their many trips to Costa Rica where they were married; sharing special memories and moments. Patrick was an avid sports participant and fan and enjoyed watching football and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys. Family and friends were Patrick's priorities, always with an open-door policy ensuring his loved ones were cared for in the highest capacity. He was a loving husband, stepfather, son, brother, and a genuine honest friend. A celebration of Patrick's life will be held at the Slovak Legion, 801 Atlantic Avenue from 1:00pm-3:00pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024. A private interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate that donations be made in Patrick's memory to the Thunder Bay District Humane Society.

I am so sorry for the loss of Patrick. It´s unfortunate that we didn´t say in touch as much as we should have. It was always wonderful to talk with him when we´d see each other. The years of us growing up together, and the adventures we had are amazing. From bobsledding in your backyard on Margret Street to mountain biking with Uncle John in the Cascades, to biking out to Hazelwood Lake for fishing with a backpack full of buns and Fliesch Salad from Brent Park Store. All these are cherished memories. Peace to your family. Patrick was great.

We were fortunate to have met Patrick and Amanda last year during their Costa Rica explorations. We were excited that they had plans to live in Costa Rica and become part of our Costa Rican extended family. So it is with a sad heart that we send Pura Vida thoughts to Amanda and everyone who was lucky enough to have known Patrick. Susanne and Larry from Altos, Punta Leona.

Patrick was always caring for residents at Roseview and I remember him running around with tools, fixing up wheelchairs, or making a spare for someone who needed it. Good and caring man, and wonderful nurse. Prayers for to family.
