The family of Patrick J. O'Brien is heartbroken to announce his sudden passing on August 27, 2025. Patrick was the most generous, kind, easygoing and fun-loving person you'll ever meet. Wherever he went, he brought joy and laughter with him. Pat was born to Brien and Elaine O'Brien on March 10, 1952, in Fort William. He attended St. Elizabeth Elementary and Selkirk High School. In 1980, he met and married the love of his life, Sharon and became an instant father of two.
Pat was heavily involved in the community. He was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and a past chair of the Trade Show Committee. He was Chairman of the Board for George Jeffrey Children's Treatment Centre and a member of the Jaycees. Pat was very involved with World Cup ski jumping and was on the Bid Committee for the 1995 Nordic World Ski Championships at Big Thunder. Known as "Travel Pat," he was the manager of O'Brien Travel Agency, founded by his father, and a member of the Skal International organization of travel and tourism professionals. Pat was an enthusiastic charter member of the O'Kelly's Pub committee, which carried on after Cory left Thunder Bay, raising thousands of dollars for the George Jeffrey Children's Centre and purchasing wheelchairs for families in need. Pat enjoyed his sports. He loved to watch golf, tennis, Blue Jays baseball, and curling. He never missed a bonspiel that his daughter, Jodie, was in, and when the Vikings were on TV, he would never miss a game. He loved to banter throughout the game with his daughter Carrie in Minneapolis.
He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his daughters Jodie Wilson (Paul) and Carrie Owens (Collin), granddaughters Taylor (Branden), Jennifer (Josh) and Addison. Brothers Aran (Jan) and Jim, sisters Mary (Al) and Tara, sister-in-law Lee Anne Gray (Herb), and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat will also be missed by his close friends Pat O'Brien ("Hydro Pat"), Ian Pattison and Greg Cheadle, along with the community of beautiful friends he had at 44 Gertrude Ave.
Pat was predeceased by his wife Sharon, sisters Sharon and Shalegh, nephew Jerry, and parents Brien and Elaine.
Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Pat's Life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 at St. Agnes Church Hall from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to George Jeffrey Children Centre or United Way - Thunder Bay. Online condolences may be expressed at

Thank you for every lesson, laugh and moment we've shared. Love Jodie and Carrie
