It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear Paul Routhier on Monday, January 23rd, 2017 at Victoria General Hospital. Born in Port Arthur Ontario on April 13, 1948, he was raised in Nipigon Ontario by mother Peggy (nee Maki) and father Gerry Routhier. Paul was kind and generous and touched many lives throughout his life. He found his calling of over 30 years in Vocational Rehabilitation services. He gave his all and cared deeply for his clients. He was especially fond and proud of his years serving the deaf and hard of hearing community. While at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, he met Diane Sande. They married in 1974, had two dear children David and Rebecca, and moved to Winnipeg in 1979. Throughout his life, Paul had an amazing ability to connect with people - friends, relatives and strangers alike. People appreciated his easy going nature and his kind and open heart. Missing him and cherishing him already are wife Diane, son David (Tori), daughter Rebecca (Kevin), dear sister Linda Aylward, precious grandchildren Hunter and Sage (Dave and Tori), mother-in-law Mary Sande, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. Paul was predeceased by baby sister Rita Margaret, father-in-law Herb Sande, father Gerry, sister-in-law Lynette Sande, special friend and aunt Lucille Routhier, brother-in-law Arnie Aylward, mother Peggy, nephew Terry Andrew Sande, brother-in-law Terry William Sande, and beloved aunts and uncles. Paul was deeply appreciative of the EMTs and the health care team at Victoria General Hospital. Please join us to celebrate Paul's life Monday, January 30th at 10am at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagmodiere Blvd. Winnipeg, Manitoba. My deepest sympathy to Paul's family on his passing. I worked with Paul in the vocational rehabilitation program, as a fellow counselor. Paul was well respected and well loved among his peers as well as his clients. Paul approached each day with a smile on his face and the ability to make all around him appreciate what we were doing and what we had , no matter how hard it was. Paul was a living example of, "each day is a gift and we should make the best of it".
Paul was a large and positive presence, and as such we will miss you!
My sincerest condolences ,
