Paul Strong Obituary
PAUL GRAHAM STRONG Paul Strong died peacefully at sunset on August 3, 2014, the 100th anniversary of the last day of peace before the Commonwealth's entry into the First World War. As a historian and lover of significant dates, he would have liked that. Born in Surrey, England on August 18, 1944, he was "Fly-Away Paul" immigrating to Canada by plane when he was 8 years old, eventually moving to Fort William. After graduating from Fort William Collegiate, he attended the University of Waterloo where he met Anne Perry. They married in 1966 and moved back to Fort William in 1968 where Paul took a position at Selkirk High School in the History department. He taught there until its close in 1988, then taught at several different high schools before his retirement in 1999. Paul enjoyed many hobbies including travelling, woodworking, and especially tennis as a member of the Thunder Bay Community Tennis Centre. Paul is predeceased by his wife Anne and survived by their children Graham (No'l), Gillian (Ian), and Genevieve (Trevor); their seven grandchildren, Connor, Teigan, Kennedy, Raleigh, Caeden, Kael, and Keiran; by many friends; and by his dear friend Teresa, with whom he enjoyed his last years. Burial will be a family service, but all those wishing to raise a glass and remember Paul are welcome to join us in the "Little to the Left" room at Gargoyles on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 6pm. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, you consider a donation to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation's Northern Cancer Fund, Northern Cardiac Fund, or the St. Joseph's Care Group's Hospice/Palliative Care program. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the cancer centre, Unit 1A, and St. Joseph's Hospice for their care and compassion. He was a great man who will be missed."
