PETER CHARBONNEAU Obituary

Mr. Peter Richard "Dick" Charbonneau, age 73 years, passed away peacefully in hospital on Friday, August 30th, 2024.

Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Dick graduated Lakehead University with a degree in Economics and started a career with the Federal Government in Ottawa. After a few years in Ottawa, he returned home to work for the City of Thunder Bay and eventually became the General Manager of the Thunder Bay Economic Development Corporation which focused on local business development by attracting businesses from Canada and Eastern Asia. After 14 years with the EDC, Dick focused on business consulting by helping local businesses operate more efficiently and working hand in hand with the Fort William First Nation.

Dick was involved in many clubs and organizations. Among his favourites were the Lakehead Rotary Club, and the Thunder Bay Handgun Club (where he served as president of both); as well as the Minnesota Street Rod Association, where he had been an active member since the earliest days of the club in the 1970's.

His love for vintage cars was only surpassed by the love he had for his grandchildren. He loved planning birthday dinners and would take every opportunity to get new pictures of them. He also took great pride in taking the grandchildren to the local car shows in the "old coupe".

Dick is survived by his son, David Charbonneau (Zoryana); grandchildren, Parker and Annabelle Charbonneau; daughter, Sara Charbonneau; older sister, Daphne Bishop; niece, Lorraine Hendriksen (Ryan); nephew, Eric Bishop; younger sister, Denyse Charbonneau; and numerous other family and friends.

Dick was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Gerarda Charbonneau; and brother-in-law, John Bishop.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Dick's life will be held at Holy Family Church on Saturday, September 21st at 11:00am. A private interment will take place at a later date.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on 5 North and 4 North at St. Joseph's Care Group for their exceptional care and kind hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dick's honour to the Thunder Bay Humane Society.

Dick was a longtime member of the Dutch Canadian Society of Thunder Bay serving on our Board for many years in leadership roles, and volunteering for many events. He was always there to greet members, help set up evenings, and our annual St. Nicholas Celebrations. If you needed a hand, Dick would be there following in the tradition of his mother Gerry. Our sympathies go out to his family and our special thanks for sharing him with us. He shared great ideas and brought happy smiles to many people through his kind words. Here is Dick helping St. Nicholas as he did so many years helping to make many families very happy. We will miss him. Jeanetty Jumah for the Dutch Canadian Society of Thunder Bay.

Kelly and I are part of The Dutch Canadian Society of Thunder Bay and we had the privilege of volunteering with "Dick" through the years.
Dick served on our Dutch Canadian Society Board and always went above and beyond to help with our Socials and our Sinterklass (Dutch Christmas) celebration!
He was a very sweet and kind man and was a pleasure to be around.
He will be truly missed
