PETER MANNI Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family of Peter Mati Manni announce his passing on December 13, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. Peter was born to Kaljo and Dore Manni on June 21, 1963, a precious Father's Day gift.

Peter was an avid fisherman and hunter from an early age, learning all his outdoor skills from the best teacher, our father. He loved time spent at his camp at Eaglehead, and later on, his daily walks at the Cascades with Carol and the family dogs. Peter was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan and he took great pride in winning yearly football pools.

Peter retired in 2020, after 29 years with Hydro One. Then he had the time to become an avid gardener, wood chopper, traveller and master rib chef on the barbeque.

A much loved son, brother, uncle, partner and papa, Peter will be greatly missed by his sisters Tiina Tarsitano and brother-in-law Tony and Ene Ann Manni, his nieces Sarina and Andrea (Michael Simeone), great nephews Joshua and Jared Lloyd, loving partner Carol Backor and her daughters Sarah and Shannon (Justin Rob) and his joy Katelyn Rob. Peter was predeceased by his parents Kaljo and Dore Manni.

As per Peter's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be a family celebration of life at a later date.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to TBRHSC Cancer Clinic would be greatly appreciated. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Faghih and Dr. Bezanson and the nurses and staff at the Cancer Clinic and 1A.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.

Sincere condolences to the family and friends. Peter was such a large hearted gentleman and we always enjoyed his company out at camp at Dog Lake with our children. Forever missed.

Peter, thank you. For everything. For the berry picking, the summer Saturday yardsaling and coffee, the delicious food (better than Ribfest, always!), the long drives with the truck, and the best campfires by the "fire bug". Thank you for the garden goodies and bunny greens left on my doorstep, the tree type quizzes, the random Estonian words you taught us (namely karu, hapukapsas, and mustikas), and your calm but steady presence. Thank you for being the father figure I never thought could exist and for holding my hand when I needed it the most. Thank you for all the small things that now seem so big.

But most of all, thank you for making my mom happy. For the kind gestures, the fun trips, the holidays and birthdays, camping, gramma Thursdays...

I don´t believe there is a person in this world that wouldn´t have liked you... or at the very least, you wouldn´t be able to strike up a genuine conversation with. Who else could say that about themself?

Thank you for teaching me to be friendlier to strangers, to live life no matter what others think, and most of all to be strong in the face of what´s next. I know that the grief is merely a sign of how much you meant to all of us. There will be a six pack of beer under the tree this year for you, because we will never forget you in this world you left behind.
