PETER PETRICK Obituary

PETER PAUL PETRICK
Peter Paul Petrick, 92, passed away peacefully on May 22nd, 2024, surrounded by family at St. Joseph's Hospital in Thunder Bay.

Born October 8th, 1931, to Zuzanna and Adam Petrick in Fort William, ON, Peter was fiercely proud of his childhood in the East End and his Slovak heritage. Well into his old age, and at every opportunity, he would fondly share vivid memories and stories of those days.

Married on August 25, 1956, to the love of his life, Jean, the couple were blessed with 3 wonderful daughters and built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He was a devoted dad who supported his daughters unconditionally in all their endeavors and took great pride in their achievements.

Peter's Christian faith journey began early at Trinity Lutheran Church, where he became a member of the Active Christian Teens. Eventually, the family moved to Calvary Lutheran Church.

Education was Peter's passion. He earned his teaching certificate at North Bay Normal School and went on to pursue an accomplished career as a leader within the Lakehead Public School Board and the Ministry of Education. During his tenure he earned his Bachelor's degree at the University of Western Ontario and his Master's in Education at the University of Wisconsin - Superior where he later returned (young family in tow) to achieve his Specialist in Education. Following his retirement, Peter capped off his professional contribution at Lakehead University's Faculty of Education mentoring teacher candidates.

Beyond his professional achievements, organized hockey was his athletic passion, while skiing, curling, racquetball, hunting, and fishing filled his active recreational time throughout his life. He was known for his talent as an artist and craftsman. He could often be found in his well- equipped workshop drawing, painting, carving and building things, most of which will be treasured by his family and friends for years to come.

Peter was very proud of his family camp at Loon Lake and enjoyed spending his summers with Jean and the kids and the West Loon Lake community. His family will continue to enjoy the camp and make memories in his honour.

Peter cherished family above all else. He was the heart and soul of every family gathering, especially after the passing of his beloved Jean. His warmth and kindness filled every room. Peter's love knew no bounds. He dedicated his life to the happiness and well-being of his family and to those friends and co-workers who had the good fortune to know him. He will be deeply missed by his children, Nancy (David), Karen (Bruce), and Kathy, his grandchildren, Bailley, Aubry, Brayden, Olivia, Kurtis, and extended family.

A religious ceremony will be held in Peter's honour at Calvary Lutheran Church on Friday, May 31st, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northern Cancer Fund or the Northern Cardiac Fund in memory of Peter.

Peter's passing leaves a void in our hearts, but his spirit will continue to live on in the memories and hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace alongside his wife Jean, brother John, and surrounded by the love of those who went before him.

I remember back in the 70´s when getting the strap was what was done. When I was sent to principal to get the strap. He said to me, "Bobby, this is good news bad news situation, Bad news is I can give the strap or I can give you a second chance to never be back her again." I said what´s the good news? He said, "the choice is yours". Best lesson I was ever taught. He was an amazing principal. RIP Sir.

I really liked Peter. I met him when I first started teaching as an Occasional Teacher for the Lakehead Board of Ed. He was a great Principal and I enjoyed working at his schools. After he retired I would see him out and about occasionally and would have good conversations. I´m sure as a family you will all miss him a lot. I´ll always think fondly of Peter.
