With great sadness we announce the passing of Peter Start, age 80 years, of Thunder Bay, at TBRHSC after a lengthy battle with cancer. Peter was born on August 4, 1933 in Toronto, moving to Port Arthur as a young child. He worked his entire career at Richardson Terminals, lastly as the office manager, retiring in 1996. He married the love of his life, Arlene Samec, on December 15, 1956 and they enjoyed over 56 years together. In his earlier years he enjoyed camping and fishing. Peter is survived by his wife Arlene, daughters; Susan (Ron) Whorpole and Sherie Hyvarinen (Randy Niemi). Grandchildren: Ryan Hyvarinen (Natassia Naccarato), Laura Hyvarinen (Illja Karsakis), Michelle (Paul) Hutton, Kevin Whorpole (Kim Ferron-Boulet). Great grandchildren: Ryder and Ally Hutton and Ethan Hyvarinen. Also survived by his brothers James and Robert and sister Ruth (Winston) Cryderman, nieces, nephews and chosen family, Manju and Premji Kerai, Anita (Amit) Joshi and Sonia Kerai. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Frank and Ruth Start and his mother and father-in-law, Marion and Clarence Samec. Cremation has taken place and as per Peter's wishes there will be no service. A gathering for the immediate family has taken place.
