Philip Tereen Obituary

June 02/33 - Aug. 19/00After a long, hard fight with cancer, Sonny passed away in St. Joseph's Hospice. He was born in Fort William to Jack and Stella Tereen. He played hockey as a youth for the Hurricanes and attended Vocational High School. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War and trained as a Communications Specialist. Upon discharge he went to the Arctic to work as a Radar Operator on the Distant Early Warning Line, where he remained for twenty-seven years. He then returned to Thunder Bay where he longed for the solitude that he became so accustomed to in the north. He hunted and fished, picked berries and mushrooms, played cribbage and handicapped horses. He had his name on a bar-stool and pool cue at 'The Westfort'. He became computer literate and worked for the Ministry of the Solicitor General. He ended his working career as a Commissionaire at the Airport, where he soldiered on, despite his illness. Sonny will be fondly remembered by: his mother, Stella Sopko, his sisters: Irene Wdowiak, Sylvia (Barry) Hogan, Beverly (Tom) Schoffer, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and his buddy Tom Chicorli. He was predeceased by his father and brother-in-law, Barney Wdowiak. Cremation has taken place. There will be a private family service.A good son, a true friendHonest, hardworking and kindGenerous to a faultA gentleman to the end."
