Phyllis Miller Obituary

November 16, 1934
- July 29, 2021

It is with profound sadness that we say farewell to our beloved mother, Phyllis Anne Miller (Moss). Born in Port Arthur to Audrey Barnes and Hal Moss, she attended Pine Street Public School, and PACI. Mom worked as a stenographer at a number of businesses, including Cochrane Hardware, Ontario Hydro and Air Canada. Mom married her first husband, Alpo Aho in 1954. Together they had three children, Steven, Beverly and Alpin. After his untimely death in 1959, Mom returned to the workforce to support her young family. She began working at Ontario Hydro, where she met her second husband, Bill Miller. They married in 1964 and went on to have two more children, Shelley and Blair. Mom continued to work as a stay at home mom, providing unconditional love and support to her family. Mom returned to work at Air Canada in 1979, remaining there until 1991. In retirement, Mom and Dad travelled extensively, returning to Barbados for many winters. She spent 57 summers at our camp on Surprise Lake, creating many happy family memories with her children and grandchildren. Mom came home for her final days, and passed away, surrounded by all of her children. When asked what she would like her obituary to say, Mom said, “I loved my children. They were my life.” Her presence at family dinners will be forever missed and we will always set a place for her. She was kind, caring, loving and supportive. We were so fortunate to call her Mom. Mom is survived by her children Steve Aho (Ruth), Beverly Aho, Alpin Guy (Paul), Shelley Miller-Irving (Greg), Blair Miller (Tanis). Grandchildren Matt, Andrea (Mitch) and Adam Aho, Kristie (Ross) and Rob Kinch (Haley), Craig Veneruz (Jackie) and Lauren Guy (Brendan), Erik and Nick Jakubowski, Liam and Aylish Miller. Great grandchildren Emmi Aho, Troy and Ronan Veneruz, as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, husbands Alpo and Bill, sister Alicejean and brother-in-law Frank Massaro, and numerous in-laws. Many thanks to TBHRSC-Cancer Care, particularly Drs. Faghi and Ward for their compassionate care. Thanks as well to nurse Amanda Korte for her support and care during mom's final days at home. f so desired, donations to the Thunder Bay Humane Society would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.

I remember your mom with such great fondness- cross-country skiing, Friday pop and chip night, margarine toast dipped in hot chocolate and most importantly, her gentle and sweet presence. She was always interested in learning the latest news about my life, my travels, my adventures. And I too was always happy to learn about her endeavours alone or with your dad. She had a great influence on my life (career woman, traveller, reader) that I will always cherish. Thinking of you all and sending peace and love and hoping to see you soon,
Love Lisa, Claude and Simone

Aunty Phil was always an Aunt that I held dear to my heart. She reminded me of my mom (her sister ) in so many ways. She was soft spoken and had a gentle way of being but stood strong to her beliefs. I will miss you dearly and now you will be able to join all the people that left this earth before you that you loved.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I still carry some childhood memories of being at camp with Phyllis and Bill. I remember food and laughter and feeling so welcome.

I never met Phyllis in person, but I see her in my dear friend Bev, and her brothers and sisters. She has left us all her best qualities in her children, and grandchildren.
Thinking of all of you at this time of loss and hoping you will find comfort in the years to come in the loving memories your Mom gave you. Hugs
