It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pierre Gerard Gagne on November 10, 2019 at Hamilton General Hospital. He was born on October 20, 1934 in Amqui, Quebec, the son of Edouard Gagne and Camille Beaulieu. He met the love of is life, Jeannine Jean and they were married on October 22, 1955. They had a wonderful marriage for 64 years and had 9 children. Michel (Elfie) Gagne, Jean-Pierre (Mary) Gagne, Helene (Real) Gagne, Denise| (Nick) Shimkoff, Marielle (Francine) Gagne, Johane (Dave) Krueger, Nathalie Gagne, Rene Gagne, Isabelle (Jon) Mills. They opened their home to many foster children and adopted three bothers David (Donalda) Gagne, Stephane Gagne and Peter Gagne. Gerard was a farmer early on in his life and worked in the bush during the winter months to support his family. In 1964, he moved his family to Northern Ontario to the small community of Dubreuilville where he worked as a millworker at the sawmill. In 1972, he moved his family to Thunder Bay to provide a better future for his children. He worked at Northernwood Preserver for a few years then became an Ironworker and worked as a welder in different communities in Northern Ontario. Gerard retired from Superior Trailer in 1989. Gerard was a family man and enjoyed his time spent at Northern Light Resort with his family fishing and picking berries. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Parish and an Honorary Life Member, Fourth Degree of the Knight of Columbus. He will be sadly missed by his wife and children, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Andre-Albert (Marthe), sisters Marie-Therese and Marie (Marc-Andre) Lavoie, brothers and sisters in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, son Stephane and grand-daughter Christina. Funeral service will be held at St Elizabeth Church in Thunder Bay, Friday, November 22, 2019 at 11:00 am. The service will be officiated by Father Rey Ronquillo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made at The Mark Preece Family Home, www.markpreecehouse.ca or Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre Foundation – Our Hearts at Home campaign, www.ourheartsathome.ca
