LANKIMAKI February 28, 1960 - August 28, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved brother, Raimo Johannes Lankimaki. He passed away in his home in Hurkett, Ontario, on August 28, 2025.
Raimo was born in Kauhajoki, Finland. He moved to Thunder Bay in 1972, along with his parents and siblings.
He worked in construction in Thunder Bay for most of his life. In 2013 after his cancer treatments and surgery, he moved back to Hurkett. Raimo loved to go fishing on his quad and was an avid reader. He was a huge AC/DC and Elvis fan, and we were fortunate enough to celebrate him with an AC/DC-themed party just a few days before his passing. He was humbly brilliant and knew more on just about every topic than most people. He was a very social person and made friends everywhere he went, and was quite the story teller; he always had some new (and sometimes outrageous) stories every time you saw him. If anyone has any of Raimo's stories to share with us, we'd love to hear them.
Raimo will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by his 4 sisters and 3 brothers: Salli (Esko), Seija (Jay), Kirsti (Doug), Pirjo (Chris), Tapani (Tania), Markku (Chantal), Jari (Lucie); nieces and nephews: Anne, Susan, Jaymie, Matt, Shari, Adam, Sara, Karin, Kyla, Jayson, Karol, Andrea, Samantha, Tyler, Katriina, Sharran, Markus, Marja, Amber, Kathryn, Lillie, Melinna, Aliissa, Sofia, Jessy and Dylan; and many great nieces and nephews; and uncle Aarne (Eira), and aunts: Raakel (Markku) and Saara and other relatives, in Canada and Finland; and by his 2 cats (his babies), Tiger and Söpö.
Raimo was predeceased by his parents, Alarik and Eeva Lankimaki.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will be held at the Hurkett Cemetery on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 3:30 pm, followed by a celebration of life at the Red Rock Legion at 4:30 pm. We invite all who knew and loved Raimo to attend and share in his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hilldale Lutheran Church and
Canadian Cancer Society.
