Mr. Ray Allan Habel, age 71 years, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2018 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, with his family by his side.
Ray was born in St. Catharines, Ontario on May 2, 1947 to Marcel and Marguerite Habel and came to Thunder Bay in 1973. He worked for over 30 years at Great Lakes Paper Mill, until retirement in 2004. Following his brief retirement, Ray went to work for Everest Funeral Chapel. He was a truly dedicated team member for over 10 years and greatly enjoyed serving the families of Thunder Bay. Ray was involved with hockey for many years, as a coach, manager and most recently, President of the Thunder Bay Junior B League. He was a long-time member of St. Agnes Parish and was involved with the Funeral Committee, Hospitality and was head of the Coffee Crew. Above all else, Ray was a family man and devoted husband, father and grandfather. His sense of humour, kind and gentle personality will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.
Ray is survived by his wife of 47 years, Charlene (nee Goch); children Jeff (Kristen) and Lisa (Rob); grandchildren Keegan, Emilia, Natasha, Dylan and Tatum; brothers John (Liz) and Norm (Maggie) of St. Catharines as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He will also be missed by his furry companion, Dexter.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother Roger and sister Monique as well as his in-laws Arthur and Dolores Goch.
As per Ray's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 12:10pm in St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Church Hall. Interment will take place in Mountainview Cemetery at a later date.
Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Ray to the Canadian Lung Association would be greatly appreciated.
