Raymond James Polinsky, age 84, passed away in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre ICU following a very brief stay.
Ray was fiercely independent. Despite being diagnosed with diabetes many years ago, he did not let this change his lifestyle. He always attempted tasks, trying not to bother other people, right to the end. Recently he was chopping wood, raking leaves, and cutting grass; all challenging activities as he got older.
Ray has always been an avid outdoorsman. Many years were spent hunting and fishing with his long-time friends, summer and winter. He'd take an annual trip to Tilly Lake for blueberries after cursing the bears for picking clean his bushes at camp. Huronian will not be the same without his perfect woodpiles, the sight of small animals eating from his hand, and seeing him come and go on his quad.
Raymond was predeceased by his father, Peter, his step-father, George, his mother, Mary, with whom he had a special relationship, sister-in-law, Karen, and brothers-in-law, John and Bill.
Raymond is survived by siblings Patricia, Laura, Ed, Harry (Morna), and Joanne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Dr. George and nurse Missy for their care in the ICU.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no formal funeral service. A private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in Raymond's memory to Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) would be greatly appreciated.
