REGINA CHENEY Obituary

CHENEY
July 31, 1939 - December 15, 2025
Mrs. Regina (Reggie) Cheney of Thunder Bay died peacefully at home December 15th, 2025.

Born July 31st 1939 Regina grew up in Lake Helen, one of 10 children born to Ole and Florence (Morrisseau) Borg. Regina spent many Sundays singing in St. Sylvester Church while her mother played the organ. Summers were spent walking to Nipigon, picking blueberries and running from bears. We've heard stories of the Borg family eating so much fish and wild game growing up that when Reggie moved away to pursue her education, she never ate fish, deer or moose again.

Regina moved down east and obtained her degree in nursing. During this time she lived with her eldest sister Lorraine and helped with her niece and nephew. When Reggie came back to Lake Helen, she surprised her parents and siblings by showing up in her brand new red buggy car.

As a nurse Reggie worked at many of the hospitals in Thunder Bay. Her longest time (30 years) was spent at Hogarth Westmount, where her well known sweet tooth meant that coworkers and patients would save extra desserts for her.

Regina married Allen Cheney and their son Christopher was born in the mid 70's, Regina also had an older son named Darren (DJ). Being a mother was Regina's #1 priority. She raised her sons with grace and ease while maintaining her nursing career.

In the mid 90's Regina and Al welcomed their 1st grandson Brandon. Being "Grammy" was now Reggie's favourite pastime, Brandon was and always will be her "baby." The 2000's would bring the addition of 4 more grandchildren - Emily, Darcy, Christopher Jr and Pierson, each with a special nickname and place in Grammy's heart. Grammy was a funny lady, the memories we have of her will always make us happy and keep us laughing.

Predeceased by parents Ole and Florence Borg, husband Allen Cheney, son Darren (DJ) Borg, siblings Lorraine, Loretta, Ragner, Conrad, Darcy, George, Christina and Randy.

She was joined by her beloved cat Missy just 5 days later.

Survived by son Christopher (Andrea), siblings Bobby and Geraldine, grandchildren Brandon, Emily, Darcy, Christopher Jr and Pierson, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will occur this Springtime in Lake Helen, with interment at St. Sylvester Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted with WESTFORT FUNERAL CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.

Working as an orderly at Westmount Hospital in the late seventies, I worked nights with "Reggie."
She was one of the kindest , hard working, and generous nurses I had ever been privileged to assist.
We worked many night shifts together. Her sense of humour was quiet, but very potent.
I always looked forward to know that I would be themed up with "Reggie."
With confidence, I can safely say that heaven just gained another angel.
Just know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this most difficult time .

Sincerely,

Jim Campbell
