Mrs. Reta Poleck passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Sept 4th, 2011, surrounded by her family. Reta was born on July 21st, 1922 in Port Arthur to Thomas and Annie Gillson. She was a lifelong resident of Current River. Reta married the love of her life, George Poleck, on July 10th, 1943. Their only child, Michael Robert, was her pride and joy. Reta loved her family, and her great-grandsons held a very special place in her heart. Reta's passion was caring for her family and her garden. Reta enjoyed campfires, camping and travelling with her family. In her younger years she enjoyed golfing, curling, skiing and many other activities with her loving husband. Reta was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Loretto Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 60 years. Reta was a founding member of the "Knitting Club" and greatly enjoyed her friendships and meeting with the other members for 70 years. Reta always enjoyed having tea with her neighbor and dear friend Madeline. Reta will be greatly missed by her son Michael (Aila) Poleck; grandson Tom (Suzanne) Poleck; great grandsons Gabriel and Lucien; granddaughter Laura (Mark) Earl and great grandsons Ethyn and Zachary. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. Reta was predeceased by her loving husband George; her parents Thomas and Annie Gillson; and her brothers Howard Gillson, John (Jack) Gillson and Gerald (Gerry) Gillson. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service for the late Reta Poleck will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9th, 2011 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, presided by Rev. Rey Sorgon of Our Lady of Loretto Roman Catholic Church. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior to the time of Service. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Reta's memory to the Elevator Fund at Our Lady of Loretto Roman Catholic Church, or to a charity of their choice.
