June 11, 1950 ~ September 8, 2024
With deepest sorrow, we announce the passing of Ricardo Salgueiro on September 8, 2024, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
Ricardo was born on June 11, 1950, in Montevideo, Uruguay. In 1967, he met the love of his life, Ana Maria, and they were married in June 1973. Two years later, in 1975, Ricardo and Ana Maria immigrated to Canada, following his mother and sister. They settled in Thunder Bay, where they raised two children, Nathaniel and Michelle.
Ricardo worked for 18 and a half years at the pulp and paper mill, until a tragic accident changed his life and the lives of his family forever. Despite the challenges that followed, Ricardo remained a fighter. With the unwavering love and care of Ana Maria, he was able to live at home with his family for over 27 years.
Ricardo had a deep love for music, often playing the guitar and singing harmonies. He enjoyed watching sports, and was a devoted fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and his beloved soccer team, Nacional, back in Uruguay.
Ricardo will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Ana Maria; his daughter Michelle; his son Nathaniel and daughter-in-law Jessica; and his cherished grandson, Jasper. He is also survived by his sister Graciela and her husband Jose, along with nieces and a nephew in Calgary. His brother-in-law Gerardo in Uruguay, and many relatives in Uruguay and Toronto, will also mourn his loss.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital who saved Ricardo's life and provided care throughout the years, especially Dr. Gabriel Mapeso. Special thanks to the Acquired Brain Injury Unit at St. Joseph's, as well as the VON nurses, support workers, and Paramed staff who assisted in his care. We are forever grateful to his physiotherapists, art, and music therapists, whose contributions brought joy and enrichment to his life. A special thanks to the BISNO team, who shared countless board games with Ricardo - games in which he almost always came out victorious.
A Celebration of Ricardo's life will be held in the lower reception hall of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. with words of tribute being offered at 1:00 p.m. For those unable to attend in person, the words of tribute will be streamed live at
www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ricardo's memory may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation, BISNO, or MADD.
