It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Bruno Grochowski, who passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, in the ICU at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 76.
Richard was born on October 14, 1949, in Fort William to Paulina and Bruno Grochowski.
In 1991, he married the love of his life, Bozena (Bartczak), whom he met at the Port Arthur Polish Hall in Thunder Bay. Together, over more than 35 years, they built a life rooted in love, dedication, and family. Richard's memory will live on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Bozena; his son, Steven; and his daughter, Nicole (Nate McKenzie).
Richard is also lovingly remembered by his cousins Anna (Jerry) Sworcuk and family, and Zenek (Czeslawa) Grochowski and family, as well as his brothers-in-law, numerous nieces and nephews in Poland, and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Bruno and Paulina Grochowski, and his in-laws, Zosia and Henryk Bartczak.
Richard studied business at Confederation College and later dedicated 31 years to the Abitibi Paper Mill as an equipment operator. He enjoyed a well-earned retirement over the past 19 years, spending time travelling, avidly watching sports, enjoying coffee circles, and appreciating life at a slower pace. A longtime member of St. Casimir's Church, Richard found his greatest joy in spending time with family and friends.
Richard will be remembered for his easygoing nature, sense of humour, and his belief that life was better when everyone was enjoying themselves. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
While we mourn his loss, we are deeply grateful for the full life Richard lived and the many cherished memories he leaves behind. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the paramedics, as well as the ER and ICU staff at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, for their care and kindness shown to Richard and his family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 11:30 am in St. Casimir's R.C. Church (613 McKenzie Street). Interment to follow in St. Andrew's Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at St. Casimir's Church from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm with Vigil Prayers being offered at 7:00 pm. If friends so desire, memorial donations to a
Charity of Your Choice would be greatly appreciated.
