Richard Jones Obituary
Richard (Dick) Clement Jones passed away suddenly at TBRHSC, on September 15, 2010, with family at his side. Dick was born May 2, 1923, in Fort William, to Edward and Nellie Jones. Dick grew up in Fort William, attending Isabella Street School, FWCI and graduated with a Commerce Degree from Trinity University. After a successful career as an accountant in the mining industry in Northern Ontario, Dick moved back to Thunder Bay and met the love of his life, Dorothy, at Fort William Ski Club. After marrying in 1961, Dick returned to school (U of T) to begin his second career as a high school teacher, spending the next 25 years at Selkirk High School until his retirement in 1987. Skiing was a big part of Dick and Dorothy's lives until they began wintering in Arizona and seemed to forget what snow was. Growing up as a child at Amethyst Harbor, this magical spot was dear to his heart, and Dick was able to provide wonderful summer memories with his own family. After retiring, Dick made the cottage at Amethyst their permanent home where he loved to spend time with his grandson, Alex. Dick was very active in the Amethyst Community and was well known as an avid tennis player, a sport that he played up until this spring. Dick's other passions included golf, Bridge, traveling and sailing. Dick loved his church, St. Paul's Anglican. He was very active through the years, his roles included; Sunday School Teacher, Warden and Treasurer. Dick was loved by many, including his friends and wonderful neighbors at Amethyst, his "Selkirk Group" and his friends in Mesa. Dick was a dedicated, thoughtful, humble and quiet man, who loved his family very much. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy, son Terry Morin (Jacki), daughters Susan (Cliff Friesen), Nancy (Todd Armstrong), grandson Alexander Armstrong, granddaughter Lisa Parenteau (Lionel Taylor), sister Marilyn Hueston, sister-in-law Lil Russak, brother-in-law Wilf Dupont (Jean), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Dick was predeceased by his parents Edward and Nellie Jones and sister Phyllis Carruthers. Special thanks to niece Julie for all your support to mom and dad. Visitation will be held at Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 S. Syndicate Avenue, from 6 - 8 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2010. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at St. Paul's Anglican Church at 11:00 a.m. If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to St. Paul's Memorial Fund or P.R.O.
