It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Rick (Richard Hugh Henry) Joseph, age 81. He left us peacefully, surrounded by family on February 16, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Rick was born in Vancouver, BC, in 1944, to parents Clifford Joseph and Thora (Burnie, Joseph) Campbell. At a very young age, the family moved to Fort William (Thunder Bay), and Rick spent his entire life here and at the lake house in Shuniah. Rick spent the majority of his career with the MTO as a surveyor and draftsman. He retired at age 49, which allowed ample opportunity to pursue travel and winters in Florida (with his wife), gardening (flowers and vegetables), golfing, and spending time with his family.
Married nearly 60 years, Rick is survived by his wife, Theresa (Butvin); daughter Stacie (Phil); grandchildren Cody (Jessica), Kelsey (Kane); great-grandson Layne Richard, Alyssa, and Caitlyn; daughter Terrie (Gary) and Zeus the grand-dog. Also survived by brothers David, Gary, and Gordon (Janice), as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Da Vinci Centre on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 1-4 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Northern Cancer Fund and WE-
Can program would be appreciated.
A special thank you to all at the Regional Cancer Centre, especially Dr. Ibrahim, the compassionate nurses of 1A, to Kelsey and McKenzy from 2A, who helped us through
this truly difficult time, and to Chris and Justin from ParaMed who provided exceptional in-home care.
Rick will be truly missed by his family and friends but his memory will live on in the stories we tell.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
