Rita Eleanor Legace1939 - 2010Embraced by her family, Rita passed away peacefully on Friday, July 16th, 2010. With her husband, she fought her terminal illness for 11 years with poise and grace, inspiring all. Rita was raised in Thunder Bay, she is the beloved daughter of the late William and Kathleen (Hogan) Baxter. Rita's devotion and dedication to teaching was only surpassed by the love she had for her family. She found endless joy in creating sweater, coats and dresses for her twelve grandchildren. At their cottage she spent many happy days reading, doing crafts and playing card games. Many a grandchild had their first cooking lessons in her Deep Bay Kitchen. Anyone who entered Rita's kitchen was greeted with fresh baked bread, butter tarts and cookies.Survived by her husband Peter Legace, five children: Peter (Linda), Barrie; Paul (Ines), Aurora; Anne (Robert) Gagnier, Hamilton; Joseph (Jodi), Niagara Falls; and Robert (Debra), Hanover. Grandchildren: Elizabeth, Spencer, Kathleen, Joseph, Meredith, Patrick, Baxter, Morgan, Xavier, James, Briar and Matthew. Also survived by siblings William (Joy), Mary, Bernard (Georgette), Paul (Margie), Richard, Anne (Dave), sisters-in-law Colette and Joyce. Predeceased by brothers Robert and Patrick, sisters-in-law Lillian and Barbara, and brother-in-law William McCallum. Visitation will be at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday July 21, 2010 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 11:00 am, at Holy Family Church. Father Mervin Perera officiating. A private family interment in Holy Family Cemetery will follow. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care Rita received from the nurses on 14th North Surgical floor, her doctor - Carol Swallow and her staff.
