RITA MEI Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rita Richetta Mei at TBRHSC on November 10, 2025 with her son Almos and daughter-in-law Stephanie by her side. Rita was predeceased by her husband Aldo, siblings Peppa, Carlo, and Augusto, and is survived by her son Almos, daughter-in-law Stephanie, her daughter Sheila, and extended family in Italy.

Rita was born on May 22,1942 in San Michele del Fiume (Marche, Italy) to Sante and Anna Savelli. She moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 1962 to marry the love of her life Aldo. Rita and Aldo then moved to Thunder Bay in 2007 to be closer to their son Almos.

In Italy Rita developed her seamstress trade skills before she moved to Canada. In Canada Rita was a homemaker raising her son and daughter and taking care of the household. She had a creative flair for designing and creating various clothing and household items for the family, often from scratch.

Rita had a passion for gardening and flowers. She had a magical green thumb which enabled her to plant from seed or cuttings successfully. In her later years she packed her balcony with flowers and enjoyed endless hours on her balcony with her cat Peaches. She was devoted to her family and put their needs first.

A memorial mass for Rita will take place at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church on Monday December 22, 2025 at 9am. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Cardiac Fund.
