ROBERT AMBRO Obituary

Robert Joseph Ambro, known affectionately as "Joe" (Papa) to his family and friends, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his loving family on November 25, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on March 5, 1934, Joe's life was marked by a warm and generous spirit that endeared him to all who knew him.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Michael & Mary Ambro, in-laws John and Anita Presenger, brother John (Doris), brothers-in-law Ralph Meredith, Robert Presenger, Kevin McArdle, and nephews Randy Meredith and Sonny Ambro. Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemarie Ambro, his daughters, Joanne Oldale (Dave), and Lauri Wright (Doug), his grandchildren, Kyle Wright (Gillian), and Courtney Breukelman (Eric) and great-grandson Liam. Joe also leaves behind his sister, Mary Meredith, sister-in-law Bernice McArdle, and his nieces and nephews, Scott (Maureen), Kevin (Tammy), Jason, Julie, Diane (Jim), Liz (Dave), and Sharon, along with many great-nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Joe retired from the City of Thunder Bay Parks and Recreation. Upon retirement he enjoyed many years of driving for Happy Time Tours, Caribou Coach and school buses.

Joe's passion for life was evident in his diverse interests. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, a dedicated coin collector, and a lifelong fan of wrestling and NASCAR. He also enjoyed daily trips to the Persian Man to meet up with the coffee gang.

Joe was a true adventurer at heart, and his love for travelling with Rose and his family brought him to many beautiful places. A favourite vacation was their annual Sturgis motorcycle trip that they enjoyed with many friends. His love for travelling took him on many journeys, but he was always happiest when returning home to his many cherished dogs that he had over the years, most recently Neena and Charlee, who were his loyal companions.

Joe was a loving, handy, and generous man. His ability to fix anything and everything earned him the affectionate title of family handyman, and his generosity knew no bounds. Joe was always the first to offer help to anyone; his loving nature extended beyond his family to his many friends who will remember him for his kindness and warm-heartedness.

Joe's presence will be profoundly missed, but the memories he created will be treasured forever. He leaves behind a beautiful tapestry of a life rich in love, friendship, and shared experiences that will continue to inspire and comfort his family and friends in the years to come.

There will be a celebration of Joe's life on Monday, December 9th at 11am at the St. Paul's Anglican Church, 808 Ridgeway St. E. Friends and family are welcome. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society or a charity of their choice.

To Joe´s family, my deep condolences. Joe and I worked at Chippewa when he was head of the Maintenance crew and I worked in the Pavillion. Everybody loved Joe! He was kind-hearted, genuine, witty and an excellent role model for other City workers. Joe´s favourite colour ... WHITE! He drove a super cool white pickup, a white motorcycle, and he arrived at work each day wearing a fresh bright white t-shirt. He was a gem. I am so sorry for your loss. We are blessed to have our many treasured memories of Joe ... and his bright wide smile! His love of life was contagious. My sympathies.
