Robert Barr Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of Mr. Robert Barr wish to announce his passing at home on November 9th 2011 with his family by his side. After struggling with leukemia since June 2011 Bob is now at peace in a better place. Bob was born to John and Elizabeth Barr on January 12th 1936 in Charleswood, Mb. Bob and his family moved to Winnipeg Beach, Mb in 1947. In 1956 he married his true love Jean Hrankowski. Bob started his career as a welder with the Manitoba Department of Highways but his overwhelming love for people led him to become a union rep for the Manitoba Government Employees Association and was eventually employed as a field rep for the MGEA. In 1975 the Barr family relocated to Thunder Bay where Bob became a partner in Industrial Chrome and Plating. A year later he formed I&M Electric where he worked serving Thunder Bay and surrounding areas until his retirement in 2000. Bob was a very devoted and loving family man. Bob leaves behind his wife Jean of 55 years and daughter Cathy (Stan) Bosinger, sons Bob (Dawn) Barr; Medicine Hat, Ab, and Chris (Kristine) Barr. Seven grandchildren, Ryan Bosinger of Vancouver, BC and Sondra Bosinger, Chelsea and Erica Barr of Medicine Hat, Ab and Bradley, Brendan and Noah Barr. He is also survived by his sister Isabelle Leach of Winnipeg, Mb, and brother Charlie of Victoria, BC. He was predeceased by sisters Bette, Jean, Ina, Doris and brother Jack. He will also be missed by his many nieces and nephews. Bob was active in the Kiwanis Club of Thunder Bay where he served as club president. He enjoyed traveling, some of his favorites being China, and the Mediterranean. Bob and Jean enjoyed many of their retirement years wintering in Florida. He will be sadly missed by all his American friends and neighbours. Bob also enjoyed reading, woodworking and was considered a jack of all trades for his ability to build or repair almost anything. Bob's greatest love was his family, he especially cherished time spent with his grandchildren, he was so very proud of all their many accomplishments. Prayer service for Bob will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15th at Blake Funeral Chapel.
