ROBERT BAXTER Obituary

ROBERT ALLAN BAXTER
Robert Allan Baxter, age 98, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025 in St. Joseph's Hospice, Thunder Bay.

Allan retired in 1983 after 35 years with the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests and the Ministry of Natural Resources. He had a great love of the outdoors and spent many hours over the years hunting, fishing, birding and enjoying a peaceful walk in nature. He loved all sports but most especially baseball. Watching the Toronto Blue Jays came first, unless the team coached by Devin (his grandson-in-law) was playing, as that was top priority.

Survived by his son Robert (Nancy) of Calgary AB; daughter Ann Lucheski (Steve Barrow) of Thunder Bay; grandchildren Shawn Baxter (Julie); daughter Emma and son Hugh of Calgary AB; Jenny McIntosh (Devin); daughters Ainsley, Hazel, Ruby and Collins of Vernon Texas and Kevin Baxter (Karly); son Kolten and daughter Kennedy of Calgary AB. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Teresa Baxter of Scarborough; sister-in-law Grace Balkwill of Woodstock; sister-in-law Bonnie Hanke of Collingwood; sister-in-law Mary Ellen Baxter of Barrie, as well as nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by Jean, his wife of 69 years; parents Hugh & Ella Baxter; son-in-law Joe Lucheski; brother Owen & his wife Margaret Baxter; brother Peter Baxter; brother-in-law Jim Balkwill; and brother-in-law Bill Hanke.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the many health care providers but most especially Dr Wilberforce, Dr Templeman and the team on 4N and the Hospice Unit at St Joseph's Hospital. We are also grateful for the caring and compassionate staff at Chartwell Thunder Bay and Paramed (especially his wonderful PSW workers Barb and Susan).

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Jenkens Funeral Home in Thunder Bay on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Burial will take place at a later date in the Drumbo, ON. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Allan, donations can be made to the Underground Gym & Youth Center; Save Our Songbirds Canadahelps (Mckellar Island Bird Observatory), or a Charity of Your Choice.

So sorry to hear about your Dad, Ann. He was a remarkable man and I feel lucky to have been able to be his doctor and get to know him. And you as well.

My sincere condolences to the family of Allan Baxter. I got to know Allan and Jean while sharing residency at the Thunder Bay Chartwell retirement home. Allan was a gentle gentleman who participated in many activities here. Personally I always enjoyed our Monday evening sessions playing scrabble - and he was a fantastic player. Allan was kind and caring, and one of my best friends.

Sending our sincerest heartfelt sympathy to all the family. Allan was always ready with a smile and a teasing comment and a sincere interest in what you were "up to". He loved his sports ... but I just couldn't get him on the Saskatchewan Rider fan wagon no matter how I tried! Your hearts are breaking but take solace in that he had a long good life packed with things he loved to do. Sending love and hugs, Lorraine Hordos and all the family
