I was in Lakehead University's first Forestry graduating class in 1973. I took silvics from Bob Day. I always said I learned more from Bob Day than all my other profs combined. Although Bob was demanding in his class, he always made it enjoyable and fun.
I went on to a Forestry Silvicultural career in Ontario. I thank Bob for a successful and rewarding career in Forestry. Bob was a tremendous asset to Forestry in Ontario and North America. He will be sorely missed.
My condolences to the family.

I took Bobs silvics course in the late 1970's and was in the 3rd graduating class from forestry at LU
I enjoyed his course and although I did not work directly in the silviculture field when I graduated I learned a lot from his course
My condolences to the family
Bob is a loss to the forestry community
His knowledge and experience will be missed
Although Bob had retired I don't think LU will ever have a prof of his calibre to teach the course

Bob was one-of-a-kind. When we spent our 8 day field school at Camp MacDougall, I kept wondering how soon I would have to yell, 'I KNOW CPR!". Obviously I hadn't spent time around Bob before, because he went at field school with such energy; I couldn't believe he could keep up his pace for days on end.
He will truly be missed, and I loved his stories from his sabbatical in Africa.

Bob influenced so many of us in the field of forestry. He will be remembered for his passion in the forest, the need for crop planning, digging soil pits, the use of herbicides and just a tremendous zeal for good forest practices.
He will be missed.....Herb Bax RPF
