His laughter, dedication, compassion and love for all will be missed by everyonehe touched. He is survived by the love of his life, Judy, his children and their partners: Peter, Tim (Lisa), Mike (Jodi), and Sarah, his step-children Tim (Claudia) and Brad (Niki), his sister Beverley and his mother Betty. His genuine joy of life was reflected each and every time he looked into the eyes of his ten beautiful grandchildren: Ahren, Jacob, Logan, Hannah, John, Bailey, James, Mackenzie, Emma and Samuel. Elgin was born and raised in Fort William, Ontario. He attended medical school at the University of Toronto and conducted post-graduate research at Harvard University.Elgin spent virtually his entire professional career at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Toronto, caring for women and their babies with a level of unparalleled competence and compassion. The sense of strength and calm he brought to complex and complicated situations is his professional and personal legacy. Elgin was an active member at the Lambton Golf and Country Club, first joining as a curling member in 1967. Once the snow melted, Elgin spent the bulk of his free time playing golf with a group of close friends, Judy and his sons. A straight driver with an excellent short game, Elgin posted scores of 81 and 78 just two weeks before passing away. When not at the golf course or the hospital, Elgin loved spending time with family and friends in his wonderful backyard. A passionate gardener, Elgin nurtured and cared for his gardens with the same level of enthusiasm, joy, love and expertise he brought to everything he did. For thirty years, Elgin looked forward to getting away to the cottage on Christian Island. Here he sailed and kayaked and revelled in the beauty and peace of such a wonderful spot. In the past few years, Elgin loved taking his newborn grandchildren for early morning walks along the beach singing Bob Marley's 'Everything's Gonna Be Alright' in an effort to soothe upset tummies and tired souls. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 12th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Elgin and Judy's home at 97 Old Mill Drive in Toronto.
