Robert (Bob) Joseph Picard, a long time Thunder Bay resident, died peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, May 24, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospice. He passed quietly after a short battle with Cancer. Bob was born in St. Louis-de-Gonzague, Quebec, but spent most of his life in Ontario. After being raised in Hearst, he spent most of his time in and around the Thunder Bay area. Bob's love of the outdoors was manifested in both his personal and professional endeavours. He relished the time he spent blueberry picking and fishing with family and friends. He worked as a life-long forester, which included a lengthy career with Great Lakes Forest Products. Subsequently, he went on to become a Principal in his own successful Logging Company, Midwest Timber. In retirement, Bob enjoyed traveling, spending time with his cherished granddaughters, and his involvement with 55 Plus Center. He wasrenowned for hisskill atpool, and cribbage and was involved in several social activities. Bob will always be remembered by all for his quick wit, and charm. He was at his charismatic best when surrounded by people whose company he enjoyed. He is survived by his two children, Sherry Lynn Floren (Picard) of Vancouver, BC, and Christopher Robert Picard currently residing in Prince Rupert, BC, and their respective spouses,John and Paula . 'Grampie' will be dearly missed by his three granddaughters, Kendra Floren, Emily Floren and Madelaine Picard. Grampie was never happier than when he was able to play endlessly with his adoring granddaughters. He is also survived by his brothers and sister,s Roland of Hearst, Ontario, Lucien of North Bay, Ontario,Fernand of Thunder Bay, Ontario,Theresa ofHearst, Ontario, Hilaire of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and MarietteLeMesurier (Picard) of Thunder Bay, Ontario. He is predeceased by his life long companion, Josephine Picard (Sinderely), brothers, Wilfred and Rene Picard of Hearst, Ontario, Paul Picard of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and four brothers who died in infancy. A Memorial Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Church on Friday, May 27, 2005, at 1:30 pm. , celebrated by Reverend Richard Kowalchuk. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Northern Cancer Research Foundation, the St. Joseph's Hospice or a charity of your choice.A tree will be planted in memory of Robert Picard in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
