ROGER MAJOR Obituary

R
With great sadness we announce the passing of our dear Husband, Father, and Brother Roger Orele Major. Born November 4th, 1945 in Blake Township. He peacefully passed away September 11th, 2025 just shy of his 80th Birthday in Heritage Home in Niverville, Manitoba.

Roger grew up in Blake Township on Highway 61. He was the eldest son of the late Anne and Orele Major, and came from a large family of loving brothers and sisters.

As a child, Roger was a mischievous little boy. Tormenting his sisters by chasing them with snakes was a favourite pastime. Conning them in to putting on their "Sunday Best" before tipping them off a raft into the pond, was a particularly treasured memory. His pre-school days were spent hanging around his parents store the "Dew Drop Inn" learning to swear, drink, and smoke like a "real" trucker.

Working along side his father in the area around Cloud Lake, he learned many useful skills that would serve him later in life. Hauling gravel, building roads, digging basements, and of course trucking. He along with his truck "Betsy" were both well known, and respected throughout the community.

Trucking was always at the heart of his work life. His Million Mile Award was proof of that. From delivery, to hauling, to dispatch, to Area Terminal Manager for Bulk Systems. His knowledge, and commitment eventually landed him the post of Garage Supervisor for Trimac, from which he retired.

Dad lived to provide for his wife and children. He more or less, single handedly built the family home in Stanley. He enjoyed working the small farm, landscaping, and working on vehicles, all the while passing down to his son the lessons his father had imparted to him. Bonfires, barbeques, steak and corn roasts, were all summer traditions. Family trips with the Mastalerz's to Yogi Bear Park when we were kids, were always the best part of summer. Weekend lunches, and going to mass with his mother, were always on his to-do list. Visits with his grandchildren always involved a chocolate bar, and smiling chocolate covered faces. A man of many hats, he was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman, as well as a proud volunteer firefighter.

Eventually in retirement, Dad being restless, decided to move with our mother to Manitoba to be closer to his son. Dad was a loving, respectful, caring, husband, father, brother, and grandfather. His legacy is one of family values, belief in God, and a strong work ethic, which he instilled in all of us. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Loretta. Children Tammy Hughes (Stephen), Leeanna Laskowski (Wally), Sisters Barbara Mastalerz, Brenda Major, Brothers Peter (Valerie), Randy (Wanda), Sister Terry Robertshaw (Ian), aunt Helen Plouffe, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his son Robin Major, parents Orele & Anne Major, sister Valerie Demers, Brothers-in-law Pat Demers and Ziggy Mastalerz.

Cremation has already taken place, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
