Ronald Morancy Obituary

January 28th, 1946 –
March 19th, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ronald Scot Morancy announce his passing on Sunday, March 19th, 2023. Ron graduated from Hammarskjold High School and went on to work in the steam plant at Great Lakes Paper. Ron then went on to further his education to become a Stationary Engineering/Power Engineering instructor for almost 40 years at Confederation College. Ron served on the National Regulatory Board for years assisting the program that he devoted his career to. As a young man, Ron loved hockey and was fortunate to have won the ICHA Championship while a member of the 1966/67 Lakehead University Norwesters hockey team that was inducted into the Lakehead Hall of Fame in 1999. Ron was an avid fan of sports including hockey, baseball, football and racing of any sort. His biggest passion in life was helming his beloved White Caps powerboat where he earned the nickname "Captain Ron". Ron loved Lake Superior where he spent every summer day either at the marina talking with the guys, out on the lake fishing for lake trout and salmon or docked at Flatland or Thompson Island. Ron was the eldest of 4 children who grew up in a tiny house on South Windemere where summers were spent at the family camp on Pebbly Beach. Ron is survived by his siblings Alan (Carol), John (Karen) and Mary Ann (Rick). Ron is also survived by his two sons Jim (Carm) and Jeff (Corrine), his grandchildren MacKenzie (Nolan), Matthew, Aiden and Cole and his nieces and nephews Colin (Lana), Tara (Nathan), Andy and Morgan (Ryan). Ron was predeceased by his eldest son John and his parents Cecil and Helen. Ron was also predeceased by his two sisters-in-law both named Barb. Ron loved his many friends that he would spend time with either boating, going for coffee or enjoying an adult beverage or two at his favourite local haunts. The family would like to send special thanks to the Nurses and Doctors at the TBRHSC on floor 1A and other medical professionals who cared for Ron over the years. Special thanks also go out to Chloe and Ed who kept an extra eye on him at his condo. Funeral services to be held at Lakeview Presbyterian Church on 278 Camelot St. on Tuesday, March 28th, at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations made in memory of Ron to the Muscular Dystrophy Association would be appreciated.

wow I am so sorry to hear about Ron, condolences to all of his family. I worked with Ron in the Dorian building as well as our times out or giving him a hand with the motors on the boat. May the family know he was and will always be remembered. May GOD give you all peace during this time and take hold of your hearts and warm them with his memories today and always.

Very sorry to read about Ron's passing. We had great fun together when we both taught at CC but even MORE fun as neighbours on Robinson Drive. His long exercise bike rides were shortened to a mere few houses when he saw me and the "ride" turned into a pleasant afternoon of beverages out of site in my back yard. At the end he rode back claiming exhaustion! Last saw him a couple years ago at the Madhouse and commented on how good he looked. Ran into a couple of his students who were working in Grande Prairie Ab and they had nothing but high praise for Ron and how he conducted classes. Good sailing bud!

I haven't seen Ron since I moved to Ottawa 12 years ago ,but, I knew him my entire life as his mom and my mom were the best of friends from a very early age. I called his mom Auntie Helen. Because of this friendship, our families spent a lot of time together when I was young at their camp, when my family visited Port Arthur. When my family moved to Thunder Bay from Marathon in 1965 Ron took me under his wing. He convinced me to join the first Hammarskjold hockey team and somehow he got me on the same line as himself and Rick Klukie (both older and far superior in hockey than me). This was typical Ron. He also hosted the 25th wedding anniversary of my parents at his house. Again -typical Ron. Our lives followed a similar path in that we both chose the occupation of being a stationary engineer. Even though I haven't seen Ron for many years there is still a sense of loss. Ron was always good to me.

So sorry to hear of Ron's passing. He was a mentor to me, as a former student of his. We will all miss his upbeat attitude and personality.

Ron was a "shining star" around the Dorion Building. I will always remember his hearty laughter. Ron "lit up" any room he entered. I feel privileged to have known Ron.

Linda and I have fond memories of Ron from attending the Confederation College Stationery Engineering Program. I attended in 1977 and Linda in 1985. Ron was an amazing instructor who made a difficult topic easy to learn.

Ron was a larger-than-life guy who added value and joy in innumerable ways. I knew him for many years and valued him hugely as a colleague, neighbour and friend. In particular, Ron launched the Power Engineering Program at Confederation College and led it for many years. Our sons, Johnny and Mike, were also close friends. RIP

My deepest condolences to the family. I had the good fortune of knowing Ron since the late 70´s. Had it not been for him I probably would´ve have completed my power engineering levels. He was a great guy and will be missed by many.

Ron was a fine gentleman, a good friend and just a down to earth real person. He was the captain of Robinson Drive. He indeed was a true inspiration to anyone that desired to pursue a career in the trades program. He was always first out of the gate to offer help to anyone that needed it. Ron, it was my pleasure to call you my friend. I tip both my hat and glass to you sir. Rest in peace Ron. Till we meet again sir!

Dear Mary Ann and family,
My condolences on the loss of your brother, Ron. I remember the little white house on South Windemere Avenue where your mother babysat me a few times when you could not do it. Hoping you will find comfort in your memories of Ron. Sincerely, Mary

I am so upset to see that Ron passed away last weekend. He had just wished wished me a Happy Birthday a few weeks ago. We spent many Friday nights having drinks together at our favourite watering hole, The Mad House. Joking around and people watching most of the time. He even took me out on his beloved Whitecaps for a tour one afternoon, years ago. We had lots of laughs together and even though I haven´t seen him in a couple of years, i was still connected to him through social media. You were a good friend Captain Ron, and I will miss you dearly.
My condolences to his extended family, but especially his sons. Your Dad was so proud of you.

I have many fond memories of seeing Ron around the College when we both worked there; he was always the charmer with the most engaging smile and a friendly word. His passing is a loss to Thunder Bay as people like him make it a great place to live.

So sorry to hear the news about Uncle Ronny. Sincere condolences from the Toronto Paajanens to Jimmy, Jeff Allan and families. Great memories of your dad and my dad together making each other belly laugh. It was like yesterday watching Uncle Ronny holding court at my brother Billy's stag after golf telling funny war stories and jokes that are now being told over and over with beers in hand in heaven between them both. Rest in peace Uncle Ronny, thanks for taking me fishing on Marks Lake and subjecting me to hearing Fleetwood Mac Rumours for the whole trip there and back. I still think of your dad every time I hear a song from the album. He certainly lived up to the refrain of "you can go your own way."
