It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Andrew Sures on Sunday, February 9, 2014. Ron was born in Fort William on March 20, 1954, the youngest child of the late John and Mary Sures and brother to Mariann and Howard. An inquisitive child, Ron had a creative mind and an early interest in anything electronic which continued throughout his life. With his dad's help he developed his interest in electronics at a very young age which continued throughout his life. He helped his dad repair TV's, radios, and other electronics advancing to a career in computer technology. This led to his working with a team of technology experts in the early '80's designing and developing a computerized system to transfer information from one computer to another via cable and satellite, a precursor to today's internet. Ron returned to Thunder Bay launching Ron's Virtual World, a virtual-reality game centre and became an integral part of the local business community supporting many local charities and activities. One of his favourite projects was starting and managing a local pool league that won many honours internationally. Ron will be missed by his family and business associates, but also by many close friends that shared his interests in fishing, hunting and telling humorous stories. His sociable and generous nature endeared him to many people . He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. Ron is survived by his children DJ and Levi (Liana and granddaughter Mac), siblings Howard (Deborah and children Tyler, Jaemie and Kimberly), Mariann (Lee and children Robin, Katrina), Edward (children Margaret and Michael and close friend Leona), Uncle John (Lucie and children Peter, Sarah and David), close associate Bruce Krupp (Cindy) and special companion Cookie Nguyen. The family wish to acknowledge the doctors, nurses and staff of the TBRHSC and St. Joseph's Hospice for their special care and comfort to Ron over the past few months. Special thanks to Cookie for her care and support during his difficult times. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held 11:00am, Saturday February 15, 2014 at St. Paul's Anglican Church (Ridgeway). An expression of sympathy can be made to a charity of choice.
