ROSETTA BUONOCORE Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of our dearly loved wife, mother, nonna and bisnonna, Rosetta Buonocore (née Bonacci), on February 3, 2026. A longtime resident of Thunder Bay, Rosetta passed away peacefully at Pioneer Ridge in her 91st year with her family by her side.

Rosetta was born on September 22, 1934 in Decollatura, Catanzaro, Italy. She immigrated to Canada in the early 1950's, settling in Port Arthur with her husband Giovanni. She worked for her entire career in various departments at the Prince Arthur Hotel where she established life-long friendships until her retirement in 1985.

She found passion in volunteering and giving her time to help others in community organizations. This included the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Multicultural Festival, the Italian Ladies Society of Port Arthur and both the Senior's Club and CWL of St. Anthony's Church.

Rosetta was a strong, loving, generous and kind woman who found her deepest joy with her family and friends. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed playing cards, going to the family camp on Lake Superior and traveling to Hinkley and Black Bear Casino with friends. Spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren meant everything to her. It shaped the foundation of her beautiful and caring soul. Her character was defined by her deep-rooted values of family, friends, integrity, honesty, generosity, compassion and love of all those whose hearts she touched.

Rosetta will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her sons Sal and Sergio (Sonia), grandchildren Caroline (Josh), Allison (James), Jacqueline (Trevor), Jonathon (Ashley), great grandchildren Marco, Massimo, Liam, Isla, Lorenzo, Matteo, Angelo, Leonardo and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Italy and Australia. She was predeceased by her devoted husband of 63 years Giovanni, her parents Antonio and Leonilde, her bothers Natale and Angelo, and her sisters Iolanda, Giulia and Marietta in Italy. She is still survived by her brother Tommaso in Milano, Italy.

The family would like to extend their warmest gratitude to Dr. Scali, Dr. Coccimiglio and all of the staff at Pioneer Ridge for the excellent care and attention they provided to Rosetta over the last few years. Their kindness and dedication to her well-being was exceptional and we will forever remember their compassion.

The funeral service for the late Mrs. Rosetta Buonocore will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at St. Anthony's Church, presided by Father Luigi Filippini. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will also be held at St. Anthony's Church on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 10:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Rosetta online to the Helping Hands Auxiliary for Pioneer Ridge in Thunder Bay.

Arrangements are in care of Everest Funeral Chapel, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma.

Riposerà per sempre in pace tra le braccia accoglienti di Dio.

Sending my deepest condolences to all of the Buonocore Family. Im sure the sadness is great, but she knew the love of family and that will help ease the pain alittle, though the heart still grieves. I will miss her dearly. She was like family. And family is everything. Marjut

I am saddened to hear about Rosetta´s passing. Rosetta´s room at Pioneer Ridge was close to my mom´s room. We had some lovely exchanges even though she spoke Italian of which I only understood a few words. She often greeted me as "Bella". A lovely lady; rest in peace.
