1958 ~ 2025
It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the passing of our brother and uncle Roy Pietila. Roy was born January 10, 1958 to Vilho and Raili Pietila.
Roy attended Oliver Road school and Hammarskjold Highschool. During the fall you could see him on the football field playing for the Vikings. Winter months you would see him with skates and a hockey stick on neighborhood rinks. He also enjoyed cross country skiing with the family. Roy was very active in the Finnish community events. In the summer, he would pack his bags to make trips to visit Finland.
Roy was a hunter and a fisherman. He provided many moose roasts to appreciative family. He enjoyed camping and fishing, especially at the trailer he shared with family for many years at Dog Lake Resort as his nieces and nephew were growing up.
Roy became a carpenter. He worked for Concrete Walls, Tom Jones and Sons and Ontario Hydro. Roy was highly respected in his field, building many friendships with his co-workers.
Roy's greatest role in life was being "Uncle Roy". He followed all of his nieces and nephews' lives. He was a very proud uncle.
Roy is survived by his sister Lea (Allan) and brother Jari (Joan), nieces and nephew; Sara (Andy, Lila and Norah), Erin, Ryan (Jessica), Jaana (Rob) and Jennifer (Darcy).
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, in the R. Leino Memorial Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre presided by Rev. Nancy Ringham. Visitation will begin one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the "Save a Heart" campaign at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation or a
Charity of Your Choice.
Rest in Peace Roy
