RUTH COOK Obituary

RUTH ELIZABETH COOK 1942 - 2026
With gratitude for her life, but sorrow at her absence, the family of Ruth Elizabeth Cook (nee Tracy) announce her passing. Ruth was born in Alberta and spent her childhood in Toronto with her older sister, Patricia. She relocated to Thunder Bay in 1965 to work in archaeology at the newly founded Lakehead University. She lived in Northwestern Ontario for the remainder of her adult life, married to her husband, Tom, for fifty-five years. Ruth's lifetime of action illustrates her belief in our shared obligation to leave the world a better place than how we found it. A moral life of consideration for others. She worked for unions, non-profit social organizations, Canadian Mental Health Association, Habitat for Humanity and the Council of Canadians. She loved to read novels and non-fiction, to gain knowledge and learn about the world. Ruth spent much of her time in her garden, growing and collecting and pressing flowers to create art. She loved to sit with a fresh mug of tea and have a conversation about everyday things, while impressing her belief in helping others onto her children and grandchildren. Sharing knowledge and encouraging them to become the person they want to be. Ruth died at home, surrounded by her family, in her daughter's arms. All who loved her will miss her. Many thanks to the friends who provided books and food and good company over the past months. Thanks to all who came to have tea and visit. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree.
