RUTH SIMONSEN Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruth Catherine Simonsen on November 27th, 2024 at St. Joseph's Hospice, following a brief battle with cancer; her family and support family from Options Northwest were at her side.

Born in Port Arthur on January 26th, 1962. Ruth was raised at home by her loving parents Erling and Kathleen until 1987 when she moved into an Options Northwest Family Group Home, starting on Tarbutt Street, followed by homes on Skyline Avenue and lastly Tuscany Drive.

Ruth lived a full life with many dedicated caregivers over the years. She enjoyed many family times and especially trips to the family camp at Two Island Lake, where she had a favourite rocking chair by the fire. She always had her Sunday bacon and egg breakfasts with her two brothers, followed by lots of good country music - she loved Johnny Cash songs! As a youngster she also enjoyed playing on the beach throwing sand into the water. If a chainsaw was nearby she would head to the swing set and rock to the "music". Ruth also enjoyed a good cup of tea whenever it was offered and many bowls of veggie snacks!

The life at care homes was also full with many happy times including boat rides, birthday outings, walks, dances, movies and trips to McDonald's for her favourite fries and chicken fingers.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents Erling and Kathleen Simonsen, sister Erin Yurick and brother Glen "Butchie" Pattyson. She is survived by her brother Garth (Debbie), niece Abby (Warren), nephew Shane (Erin) and cousins, nephews and nieces from the Yurick, Simonsen, Moore and Pattyson families.

A big thank you to the Regional Hospital Palliative Care Team, ER, Unit 2C and St. Joseph's Hospice staff for their dedicated care for Ruth.

Cremation has taken place and a family service will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please give to a Charity of Your Choice.
