SANDRA LYNN ENNIS (Sandy) 1949 ~ 2026
Sandy, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, at the age of 76.
A Life of Service and Strength. Born in Fort William (Thunder Bay), Sandy was a woman of remarkable work ethic and vitality. Right from high school, she began employment at the Royal Edward and then Holland Bakery. However, she took immense pride in her 30-year career as a Dietary Aid at Grandview Lodge. In her younger years, her energy was boundless; she was known for cycling to and from work daily and even challenged herself with long-distance rides to the border.
The Heart of the Family. Sandy's life was defined by her selflessness. Whether she was tending to patients, her husband, or her children, she was always looking after someone else. She was happiest when her home was full, the kitchen was busy, her family was gathered, and she was baking and sampling tasty treats with her granddaughter, Manna. Sandy had a gift for making everyone--especially her nieces, nephews, and their parents, feel seen, welcome, and deeply special. She cherished the holidays, ensuring every celebration was filled with treats, fun, patience and love.
A Sanctuary in Nature. At home, Sandy found her greatest peace in her backyard. An ardent lover of all creatures "fur and feather," she spent hours watching the birds and squirrels. She shared a unique bond with her trees, which she affectionately named after beloved family members, and took pride in a yard that was always neat and tidy (often with a fresh handful of weeds to prove it). She especially looked forward to evening visits from her feathered friend, Rosie.
In her later years, Sandy found comfort in the quiet joys: sitting in her living room surrounded by her cherished family photos, her collection of angels, gargoyles, and flying pigs, and ending the day watching a Hallmark movie with her daughter-in-law, Brenda.
Family. Sandy was preceded in death by: Husband: Robert (Bob) Ennis, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage. Granddaughter: Allyceea. Parents: Eldee and Mona Durant. Siblings: Al (Ann), Donald (Helen), and Ethel Fodchuk (Ormie). She is survived and deeply missed by: Sons: Scott (Sheri) and Kelly (Brenda). Granddaughter: Manna. Brother: Larry (Violet). Extended Family: Among the many nieces, nephews, and dear friends are niece, Tashia-Rose and great-nephew, Shea.
Services. A celebration of Sandy's life will be held in the spring. In honor of her lifelong love for animals, the family suggests that donations be made to the
Canadian Cancer Society or Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Northwest Animal Centre in her memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
