Sandra O'Connor Obituary

April 11, 1935 – November 7, 2021

The earth has truly lost one of its most strong, vibrant, glorious rays of sunshine. The family of Sandra O'Connor broken heartedly announces her peaceful passing on November 7, 2021 at TBRHSC in Thunder Bay with family by her side.

Sandra was born April 11, 1935 in the rural municipality of North Cypress, Manitoba. From her birth to her death, she nourished her family as well as strangers with her unconditional love, generosity, and kindness. She was truly the most thoughtful and nonjudgemental person you could have met, adored and loved by all. She had an uncanny ability to reach people deeply and in a positive way within minutes.

Sandra was born to Lillian and Stuart Mitchell and was the middle of three children. At the tender age of 12, she fell in love with Bernie O'Connor, the handsome boy next door, and they were married in 1952. The young couple started their family early in their marriage, and went on to have four wonderful children, Lee, Brian, Patrick, and Debbie.

Sandra was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother Jim, sister Maxine, and son Patrick. Family meant everything to her. "As long as we are all together" was a famous quote for family meals, even if we were all squished at the same table. She was so proud of her large, loving family. She took every opportunity to brag or share a story about each of us. She looked forward to in person visits as well as the conversations and photos shared by our out of town relatives. At times, the busy signal on the phone lasted for hours because she enjoyed hearing updates and stories from everyone.

Left to cherish and remember her loving life, are Sandra's three remaining children, Lee (Bob) Blundon, Brian (Susan) O'Connnor, and Debbie O'Connor, daughter-in-law Janet O'Connor, grandchildren Bobbie, Jamie (Amanda), Kristen (Matt), Ashleigh (Troy), Courtney (Jeff), Mitchell (Kathleen), Ross (Natasha), Bailey (Shane), great grandchildren Aaralynn, Aidan, Ryan, Jackson, Colton, Olivia, Amelia, Rhonwynn, Alder, Alice, and (one more addition on the way), as well as many nieces and nephews.

At this time, no funeral services will be held.

The families would like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at Hilldale Retirement residence for their attentiveness, loving care and extra ice cream over the years. For her personal caregivers for their gentle touch and care. The staff at Thunder Bay Regional Hospital for their understanding and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to heart and stroke foundation or do what Sandra did daily, perform a random act of kindness. "Don't cry because I'm gone", smile because of the memories you hold. Sandra was tough and brave. She knew what she wanted. Her mind was strong but her body was tired. She left on her own timeline to be once again reunited with her husband, brother and son, whom she missed desperately.

Sandra was a very special person. She will be missed but only with pleasant thoughts. I think Sandra is sitting at Trout Lake with Bernie and Pat enjoying the sunshine with smiles on all their faces being reunited.

She will be missed. As a cousin from the west coast, I remember getting a Christmas phone call one year and enjoyed walking down memory lane with her. She was so thoughtful!!!

My deepest condolences to Sandra’s Family and Friends. I never met her in person but talked to her on the phone when she used to put in her weekly order to Shoppers Drug Mart. Such a kind sweet lady and I always wondered what she looked like. She was the highlight of my day when I got to talk to her on the phone. RIP Sandra you will be missed.

My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to your family. I am so fortunate to have met her while I worked at Hilldale. She was such a wonderful lady. I loved seeing her smiling face and our late evening chats. She will be missed.

Although I never met Mrs O'Conner I knew Bernie very well as the IBM service person at Dougallmedia. Bernie and I would talk about our families and it was like I knew Sandra personally. Bernie and his sweetheart are together again. My condolences to you all especially Mrs O'Connor and family (my daughter's grade 2 and grade 3 teach)
