"Forever our dad, forever our hero."
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Scott Alan Goodwin, who passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2026, surrounded by his family at home. Scott was born on July 19th, 1958, in Brantford, Ontario.
Scott is survived by the love of his life, Debbie, and his pride and joy, Eliza and Nigel (Yasmine Hogan). Mother, Marilyn MacKinnon, and siblings Mark (Claudia) Goodwin and Lori Goodwin. Also survived by sister-in-law Vivian (Bryan) Heppler; brothers-in-law Raymond Irvine and Richard (Malissa) Irvine; Betty; Sanchez; Bev Maronese; cousin-in-law Mary Williamson; and many nieces and nephews who loved their uncle Scott dearly. Predeceased by his father, Raymond Goodwin; stepfather, Ed MacKinnon; and brother, Gordon Goodwin. Scott also had many warriors in his corner throughout his battle with cancer; the family would like to thank Cathy and George Cava, his lifelong friend Scott Norman, Fatima Tavares, Marina and Don MacLeod, and the many friends he made on his life's journey. Family and friends were the most important things in Scott's life. His loyalty to those he loved ran deep, and when you had a piece of his heart, you had it forever.
Upon completing Lakehead University, Scott began a career in corrections, ending as a youth probation officer when he retired in 2017.
Scott had a passion for all sports, whether he was participating in hockey, lacrosse, or baseball; coaching; or cheering on his beloved Red Wings, the Raptors, or the Detroit Tigers with his four-legged friend Oliver by his side. He was easily spotted on his daily walks that were marked by a constant stream of waves, honks, and hellos. He loved nothing more than sitting around a fire, sharing stories, music, and laughter. From a young age Scott discovered his fondness for fishing; whether it was small creeks or large bodies of water, he created many beloved memories for both himself and those who joined him on his adventures.
Scott was a compelling presence, and he will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Pro Kids and Paws for Love.
"Goodbyes hurt the most when the story was not finished."
