SERGIO RUSSO Obituary

SERGIO RUSSO April 4, 1931 - November 19, 2023
The family of Serge Russo is saddened to announce his passing at the age of 92. Serge was born April 4, 1931 in Genoa, Italy to Ruggero and Dalia Russo. Serge immigrated to Canada in 1951 traveling across the country until settling in Fort William in 1954 where he met the love of his life Joan Marshall. The two married in 1955 and soon after had 3 amazing children Steven, Darcy and Donna. Serge woke up everyday smiling because he had all he needed, and that was Joan. Serge loved his wife more than anything in this world, and he would tell anyone who would listen.

Serge worked and managed the parts department at Canadian Tire for over 30 years until retiring in 1993.

Joan and Serge spent many years traveling and enjoying all life had to offer, most of all family. Serge always took the time to make all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren feel loved and special. We all hold special memories of the little thing's Papa would do that made life better. To know him was to love him and that we did. Serge taught us that life is what you make it and hard work pays off.

Serge was predeceased by his daughter Darcy Brown, sisters-in-law Cath Evans, Edna Mathews and brother-in-law Edgar Marshall.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Joan, son Steven Russo (Trudy), daughter Donna Walberg (Ron) and son-in-law Ian Brown; grandchildren: Jason Russo (Carlee), Natalie Russo (Maurice), Trevor Russo, and their mother Renee, Sarah Brown, Stephanie Irwin (Brent), Katie Barthel (Daniel), Samantha Perry (Spencer), Kaitlyn Mauracher, Kelly Parker (Josh) and Mitch Mauracher (Beth); as well as 14 great grandchildren. Serge is also survived by his brother Elio Russo (Dina) and family in Portugal, Jackie and John Duff and their extended family in England and family friend David Morris.

If he has taught us anything in his long life it is that you can start life with everything and lose it all, but if you work hard and have joy you can build the most beautiful fulfilling life.

A special thank you to Dr. K Storkson for the fabulous care and the 2C staff. Also, to Chartwell and all our many friends for all their support and kind words.

Cremation has taken place, and a private ceremony will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the TBRHSC Cancer Centre.

Hello Joan, my sincerest condolences on the passing of Serge. You spoke often and fondly of Serge during the time we worked together at McKellar. It was always nice to chat with him when we met from time to time over the years.

Knew Serge forever from Canadian Tire. Also knew him as my mother in law Kay worked with Joan. Knew Darcy and Ian well and Steve from baseball. Serge and family friend Ron Moreau knew each other well. Condolences to Joan and family on the passing of a great guy.

So very sorry to hear that Uncle Serge has passed away.
We have such happy memories of many holidays spent with Auntie Joan and Uncle Serge over the years.
He had such an engaging personality, truly unique and so quick witted. Above all a completely devoted family man who will be so missed.

It makes me sad to hear about Serge´s passing and to know that his family and friends will suffer from his absence.

In my younger years, Serge was a close friend of my parents so I have many fond memories of him. He was kind and caring, and he was an attentive listener. He always carried a smile and made me feel welcome and very special. As an adult, whenever I saw him, he treated me with the same respect. Serge was a hard person not to love. Rest easy Serge xoxoxoxo

Rest in peace Sergio. When ever Andrew and I had the privilege of your company, you always greeted us with that beautiful big smile. You always showed grace and humour and most of all unconditional love for your family and friends. You will be missed, but all the stories you told through the years will remain in our hearts. Love to your family through these tough days.

I am saddened to hear of Serge's passing, he made my years in the parts dept at Canadian Tire a joy! The stories we could tell! I was working as a tour guide in the mid 90's, and met Serge in the Friendship Gardens with my group from the US. Serge offered to take our group pictures with all their cameras, and "assisted" in the telling of the history of the park! Rest well my friend, God bless your family and may He bring them comfort.
