SERGIO ZAINA Obituary

ZAINA
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, Nonno and great-grandfather, Sergio Zaina, on September 22, 2025. He is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife Angela, in Heaven.

Born in Azzano Decimo, Italy, to Lucia Campagna and Giuseppe Zaina, Sergio immigrated to Canada at the age of 19 to continue his career as a bricklayer, a craft he dedicated himself to for over 40 years. Shortly after arriving in Thunder Bay, he met Angela Vettorel, the woman who would forever hold his heart. Married in 1960, Sergio and Angela built a beautiful life together until her passing in 2009. Sergio never tired of sharing the story of how fate brought them together.

Sergio enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, his work, his garden, and, most of all, the company of his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his children: Grace (David), Jennifer (Tom), and Joseph (Laura); his cherished grandchildren: Andrew (Erin), Cassandra (Steve), Alana (Mitch), Daniel (Rowan), Lauren (Jordy), Kayla, Victoria (Daniel), and Matthew (Christopher); and his great-grandchildren: Malcolm, Sloane, Brandon, Garrett, Katilynn, and Rockwell. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.

Sergio is predeceased by his wife Angela, his parents Lucia and Giuseppe, and his brothers and sisters Paolo, Angelo, Vittorio, Gina, Silvana, and Wilma.

A Funeral Mass in honour of Sergio's life will be held on Thursday, October 2nd at 12:10 pm at St. Agnes Church, 1019 Brown Street, Thunder Bay. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. A reception will be held in the church hall immediately following the service. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery,

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sergio's memory to the Northern Cancer Fund would be deeply appreciated by the family. A live stream of the service can be found at www.stagnesrc.ca/live.html.

My thoughts and prayers are with his children. I have such fond memories of visiting Angela and Sergio when I was young. He always listened to us and made us feel important. And those eyes! What a lovely man.
