SHARON RITCHIE Obituary

RITCHIE (nee Crutcher) 1943-2026 Sharon Eileen Ritchie (nee Crutcher), passed away peacefully in Courtenay, BC, on March 9, 2026, with family by her side. Sharon was married to the late James Ritchie and was the loving mother of Jennifer (Mark), Laura, Ken and was a cherished aunt, grandmother and great grandmother to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents Martha and Fred Crutcher, and husband James. Survived by her brother Jim (Kerry) and children Jennifer, Laura and Ken. Born in North Bay, Ontario, September 18, 1943, Sharon lived in several cities across Canada before settling in Courtenay, BC. Sharon grew up in Thunder Bay, Ontario, went to Shuniah Public School and Lakeview High School where she met her future husband Jim. As a young girl she was attached to her dog Red, an Irish Setter who followed her everywhere. Sharon, Red and her family enjoyed their time at their 'camp' on One Island Lake, where the summers were spent fishing, swimming and of course doing nothing but enjoying her time outdoors. Sharon worked for several years at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital and upon retirement, she and Jim settled in Courtenay, BC, where she lived closer to her children. Now retired, Sharon was happy with her home life and enjoyed short excursions to Washington and Oregon, and a special trip to April Point Lodge with her brother. She lived a life filled with love, resilience and devotion to her family. She witnessed nearly a century of change and met it all with grace, strength and an unwavering spirit. Sharon was a loving mother, grandmother/nanny, great grandmother and friend. Her family was always her greatest joy. She had the remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome, whether through her warm smile, her kind words or a seat at her table. She will be remembered for her kindness, sense of humour, strong faith, and generosity. Our family finds comfort in knowing she lived a full and meaningful life, and leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through the generations. Cremation has taken place as per Sharon's wishes. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Yesterday

I remember Sharon (or "Crutch" as we called her then) so fondly from our days living on Farrand Street in Port Arthur as it then was and attending Shuniah School. She was so kind hearted, so much fun and definitely the leader in our many schoolyard baseball games. Although I lost track of her in later years I have often thought of her fondly as she really stood out as one of the warmest, most inclusive of school friends. I have no doubt she was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother. My heartfelt sympathy to her family.
