Sheila Coslett Obituary

After her courageous battle, Sheila Mary Coslett, age 66 years, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, in St. Joseph's Hospital on Wednesday, July 20, 2016. Sheila was born to Jim and Chrissie Baird in Thunder Bay and, except for a short time in Geraldton to start her teaching career, has always resided here. In 1975, she married David Coslett and they recently acknowledged their 41st wedding anniversary. Sheila was a devoted teacher who kept in contact with many former students from Crestview School in Murillo as they did with her. She taught there for an amazing 31 years prior to retiring in 2002. Retirement allowed her to pursue many hobbies, particularly creating beautiful greeting cards, each uniquely personalized for her family and close friends to celebrate their special occasions. Sheila was a tireless volunteer for many years at the Regional Cancer Clinic. Retirement also allowed her and Dave to spend many more hours at her beloved camp at Arrow Lake as each day was now a 'Saturday'. Sheila was a kind, caring person who always put her concerns aside to be there for others first. She will be sadly missed by her husband David; brother Andrew (Terri) Baird; David's sister Nancy McGregor, and brothers Peter, Richard (Sharon) and Bruce; also David's daughter Bobbie-Jo and grandchildren William and Christopher. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Sheila was predeceased by her parents. A celebration of Sheila's life will be held on Wednesday, July 27 at 12:00 at the West Thunder Community Centre – Edward Street. In lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

I was saddened to receive the news that Sheila had passed away. I had grown up with Sheila as my close friend through my elementary years and high school. Sheila lived around the corner from my childhood house and we spent hours as children playing at each other's house. As others have said my memories of Sheila are what a very special and kind person she was. Even though we had lost touch over the years, my memories of Sheila are cherished.

My heartfelt condolences to her family.

Sheila taught all five of our children and was one of the best, kindest teachers I have ever met. When we talk with the kids about growing up and memories of school, "Mrs. Coslett" is always part of that conversation. I don't think Sheila ever knew how much she helped kids and parents alike. She will be missed and students who never had the chance to attend her classes are poorer for it. My condolences for your loss.

My sincere condolences to Shelia's family. I was a student at Crestview and Mrs Coslett taught me in grade 5. I wasn't the easiest student to teach but she managed to do it when many others failed. She was tough but she always respected her students and met them where they were. There are good teachers and there are bad teachers and then there are amazing teachers that stay with you forever, Mrs. Coslett was the later. Rest in peace

I truly lost my breath when I heard the news of Mrs. Coslett's passing. I thought she was one of the "toughest" teachers I ever had. A 10 year old may perceive it as being "tough", but in later years, I recognized she was truly providing support and guidance to enable you to begin to realize your true potential. When I left Crestview in June 1986, I can still feel those emotions of seeing my 2 "toughest" teachers, Mr. Halabecki and Mrs. Coslett, standing together saying good bye to us all, and genuinely wishing us the best on our journey. I'm thankful Crestview was a part of hers. My heartfelt condolences to your family.

I was so sad to read of Mrs. Coslett's passing. She was an extremely special person and an amazing teacher who inspired me to become a teacher. She made learning come alive through her love of learning and you always knew she cared about you. I fondly remember reading Sarah Jane of Silver Islet and then visiting Silver Islet with our class to have a boxed lunch auction and to explore Silver Islet. I also remember how she always supported her students in everything we do. I still have the cards she gave me from almost 30 years ago when she came to watch me speak in my first public speaking event. She was a truly remarkable person and I feel fortunate to have known her and been inspired by her. My sincere condolences to her loved ones.

We are so sad to hear of Mrs. Coslett's passing. She was a very special teacher to us, and to many of the Crestview friends we still keep in contact with. We have many fond memories of fun in her class such as Upside Down, Backwards Day, running and exploring in the "back field" behind the school yard, and our trip to Silver Islet. She was a wonderful teacher to us while we were in her class, and as we moved through the Intermediate years. Our condolences to her entire family. Sincerely, Mandi & Chris Larrett
