SHEILA DOUGLAS Obituary

The Douglas Clan are very sad to announce the passing of their beloved mother Sheila Douglas, on December 4, 2025, in Toronto, at the age of 85. While our hearts ache with grief, we find comfort in knowing that she has returned to the loving embrace of her husband, David, to share eternity together. She will be forever remembered by her children Catriona and her husband Ernie, Ian and his wife Debbie, Davina, and Christina and her husband Dennis. Proud grandmother of Andrew Agnes Christopher, Matthew Robyn , Makaela, Adam, Devon, Rowan and Skye. Great grandmother of Alanna, Rebecca, Abbigayle, Lilly, Norah and Jackson. Survived by her sisters Heather and her husband Colin, Clover and her husband Colin, and predeceased by her parents Henry and Mona Wood, and her sister Fiona. Sheila was born in Glasgow, Scotland on April 14th, 1940. Sheila had a passion for dancing, which is where she met the love of her life, David. Sheila and David immigrated from Scotland, then onto Australia, before settling in Canada in 1970. Sheila lived a life defined by compassion, dedication, and love. She began her career as a trained X-ray technician, spending years caring for people with gentleness and professionalism. Later, she embraced a new chapter as a transit operator with the City of Thunder Bay a role she truly loved. Every day brought new faces and stories, and she cherished the opportunity to connect with people from all walks of life. In retirement, her generous spirit continued to shine. She devoted countless hours to volunteering and coordinating social gatherings for her transit family and the community, creating spaces filled with laughter and friendship. Her creativity was boundless she loved to garden, knit and sew, crafting countless gifts that will be treasured by her family and others for years to come. Sheila was a woman of grace, strength, and unwavering love. She devoted her life to her family, nurturing us with kindness and guiding us with wisdom. Her laughter filled our homes, her compassion touched countless lives, and her presence was a source of light and warmth to all who knew her. One of the greatest joys of her life was sharing retirement adventures with David. Together, they spent many winters in Arizona, soaking up the sunshine and building lifelong friendships. Those years were filled with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories that reflected the love they shared. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life memorial service will take place in the Spring of 2026 at the Gathering Table Anglican Church, 226 Pearl St., Thunder Bay, ON. To the beloved fortunate family of Sheila Douglas I extend my most sincere Condolences on your profound loss. I only knew your loved one as " my favourite bus driver" on my Mainline Bus route for several years. She could truly drive that big bus despite her not so big stature. She was friendly, respectful and in my opinion the patience of a Saint as she truly put up with a great deal from some of the riders. We had many many long conversations as my job took me from Neebing Ave in Westfort until she dropped me off safely just in front of the P.A. General. I also can say she was a much better driver than the majority of her male counterparts as she NEVER jerked back and forth on the brakes. .I got to work when she was my driver never nauseated but always with a kind smile to have a good day. Sometimes it's the little things that matter most and I never forgot this kind lady...who would also wait if I hadn't quite made it out on time to my regular bus stop time. I thank you, her family, for sharing her with our community...she put the GIANT HEART in THUNDER BAY! Please believe me, having lost my MOM in 2019 that I am truly sorry for the loss you all now are experiencing.
Deepest Condolences,
Vincent
