Sheila Thorson Obituary

It is with sad regret that Sheila June Thorson (nee Payne) passed away unexpectedly at her home in Thunder Bay at the age of 72 with her family by her side. She was born on the 21st June 1941 to William Arthur and Hilda Payne of Vickers Heights, Fort William, Ont. Sheila lived a very full life with lots of travel and excelled in a variety of occupations. At eighteen she joined the Royal Canadian Navy where she would meet and marry her husband of 53 years, Robert Thorson, in Nova Scotia where he was serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force. As a young mother of three children, Wendy Beaudry (Andre), Tracy and Bradley she moved to Germany for 3 years. Next to Winnipeg where she worked as a Lab Tech for 7 years. Then to Los Angeles for 1 1/2 years and back to Greenwood NS. Next off to Abu Dhabi on the Persian Gulf for 1 1/2 years. Then to Rankin Inlet NWT, where she was a personnel secretary for 3 years and the Administrative Finance Officer for the Keewatin Regional Health Board for 11 years. She then retired to Eva Lake ON for five years and then to Thunder Bay until her passing. During the retirement years she travelled to many parts of the world and was blessed with 4 grand children, grandsons Adam Brown (Tracy), Perrin & Liam Thorson (Bradley) and grand daughter Tage (Wendy). She enjoyed various cruises and had recently returned from a tour of the Baltics and Scandinavia. She is survived by her brother Fred Payne (Sheila), sister Janice Creighton (Randy), their children and grand children as well as many cousins in the area. She is predeceased by her parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts, as well as some cousins. She will be sorely missed by her spouse, family, friends and the health care personnel that assisted her in the years after her stroke in 2003, namely Agnes, Sandy and Cheryl. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Vickers Heights Community Centre on Friday, August 2nd, 2013 at 1pm. On-line condolences may be made through www.nwfainc.com "
