In Loving Memory of SHELLY ROXANNE SMALLWOOD
It is with great sadness that the family of Shelly Roxanne Smallwood announce her unexpected, yet peaceful passing on October 15, 2025, shortly after her 69th birthday. Shelly was born in Newcastle, New Brunswick on September 22nd, 1956 to the late Willis and Shirley Smallwood (nee Allison). In 1958, the family moved to Ontario and settled in Thunder Bay. She was the eldest of six children and held a special love for her younger siblings, cherishing their closeness and memories they shared. Shelly's life was a testament of much strength, resilience, love and kindness. She was the heart of every gathering, often bringing laughter and joy. She lived life with fierce independence after her brain injury over three decades ago. A familiar sight around town, Shelly could often be found roaming to Safeway or Northwood Park Plaza on one of her many weekly outings. Her self-sufficiency was not just characteristic, but a way of life, demonstrating to all who knew her that a determined spirit can overcome any obstacle. Shelly lived her life guided by faith, trusting always in God's plan and finding peace in the knowledge that she was never alone in her journey. She had an incredible memory for birthdays and delighted in surprising her loved ones with their favourite chocolates, a sweet reminder of how much she cared.
Shelly will be deeply missed by her siblings Kenda, Bradley (Trina), Darren (Kristin) and Kandy (Tim) along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, family and friends. Shelly was predeceased by her father, Willis, mother, Shirley, brother, Wade and nephew, Ben.
Family and friends are invited to drop in and celebrate her life on October 27, 2025 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Unifor Union Hall at 112 Gore St. W. A private interment with immediate family will take place at a later date. To celebrate her love for cats, if so desired, donations can be made to Thunder Bay & District Humane Society or the
Charity of Your Choice.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Bassuony and staff at TBRHSC for their care and compassion.
May we find comfort in our memories and in the knowledge that her spirit will always be with us. We love you Shelly.
